No, you don’t need to worry about rust.

You just need to worry about shit flying off, opening up, shutting down, getting stuck while you’re driving down the highway.

I was riding with my buddy in his mom's green Gremlin when he wrecked it LOL. My parents also had a Pacer station wagon (orange with wood paneling on the sides) that my dad offered my brother to drive to High School and my brother said "I'd rather walk..."

I remember very clearly when the Pacer came out because my dad used to love to go to dealerships and just test drive new cars, so we actually went to an AMC dealership to check them out. I can’t remember if we actually test drove one or not. I think my dad probably looked at it and realized it was a pile of shit and that was that.

As EV mentioned, Pacers were all glass. It was literally an oven with no privacy. But I liked Gremlins. They were like compact little station wagons. I always wanted to get one like my cousin had and pimp it out like he did but never got the chance. I also loved Chevy El Caminos from the 70s. That was another fantasy vehicle for me.

I have always wanted one of those. at one point my neighbor had a green one parked in his garage for the longest time. I always told him how much I wanted one but he said he was storing it for a family member. About a year later he told me that the family member decided to sell because it had been sitting in this garage and that garage for years. Then he told me he wanted $25,000 for it and I stopped wanting one

The AMC Spirit was really the son of the Gremlin. I had wanted a Gremlin but the dealer told me that they had stopped making them so I wanted to order a pacer.....and did! Then the dealer called me and another guy who was a close family member to the store and told us that he had to give us back our deposits because he was not going to be able to get us the cars we had ordered

And that is how I ended up with an AMC Spirit hatchback. I drove the hell out of that thing from graduation until 1984 and my next automotive mistake. The 1984 Fiero! LOL In all seriousness. I kinda dug my Fiero and kept it sooo long that my boy actually drove it as his first car.

Daisy, my buddy David from Albuquerque has a very nice Pontiac Fiero. I don't know what year it is but he really lucked out finding it. He travels to California and Texas all the time and has never had any problems. His is classic white but if it was mine I'd get painted black or dark gray. I've offered to buy it from him many times but always turns me down.

We never had the original El Camiño pickup truck here, but Brazilian GM had a special series for the Chevrolet C10 called El Camiño in 1982/83.

We had this guy in high school his nickname was "Mouse". He was obsessed with El Caminos. He'd draw them all day long. He was a great artist. I often wonder about how he is.

Same. Mine was a 1972 Super Beetle (the SUPER meant I could fit 2 cases of beer in the frunk) bought for $150. Was hand painted w/ a brush bumblebee yellow. I never got to make it roadworthy...but loved it.

Now that I think about it...my current car is a VW...first VW since my 72!

My old man had two Bugs in the 60s. Great cars in the snow. The VW dealer in Baltimore was all Germans. He got to be buds with the mechanic Otto. His family came over to our pool a few times. My neighbors all WW2 vets and Jewish had a problem with VWs. My dad told Morty Bober who was at the Bulge and lived if he wants to buy him a Caddy he will get rid of the Bug.

Apparently, my grandparents didn’t have too much of an issue with it, they bought my mom a VW. And my grandmother owned several Mercedes. My dad had a Porsche, a couple BMWs, and a Mercedes at one point. So he definitely didn’t care lol. Oh yeah, my mom also had an Audi. What a POS that car was. A 1978 dark green Audi 5000. Totally expensive and a total lemon.

I mean shit Henry Ford was the biggest antisemite around and I’m driving around in a Ford.

I wish I had kept mine but it became a storage issue after the kid got a car of his own. I sold it to a guy who collects the things and is always working on restoring them. So it went into good hands. Mine was red with a grey interior. That first year you could only get red, black, white, then silver. People really messed them up... The Fiero was a 2 seater, mid engine 4 cylander "commuter" car "2M4" and that is what I used to for. But the styling led to people thinking they should race them, which was stupid. I would always get guys at stop lights goading me to race which made me laugh because they were slow. I think they put bigger engines in later, but they really screwed the marketing up on those by releasing them as commuter cars, but styling them to appeal to muscle car owners It was a weird decision.
