    Default FR Question

One of things I love about this place is the wealth of knowledge and differing opinions about the guitar and beyond. So thank you all in advance.

I know many here are partial to the Floyd Rose. In another thread someone made a point, I never thought of. Now if I were putting together a partscaster, and it was going to have a Floyd Rose, dive only, system, my options would be:
    A) Having a recessed Floyd and installing some type of trem-stopping system
    B) Having the Floyd on the top (no recess) and the neck pocket being angled.

My question is, does anyone have any thoughts, opinions, experiences with either option? Is one more comfortable, easier to keep in tune, intonation, etc. Or does it not matter one way or the other.

Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts

    Thanks again

It doesn't really matter which way you go with.
If you're not pulling up on the bar, there's no reason for a recess.
Block stop in the spring cavity, or plate meets face method, both work.
And although angled neck pockets are the ideal, they can still be a PITA, and require shimming.
AFAIK, Floyds were designed to retrofit onto Fender Strats (and other similarly spec'd components)
But of course, some futzing around will most likely be involved.

In the last 45 years, I've had exactly one guitar with a Floyd,
and one with a recessed Edge...they were both good,
but I've been a Kahler 2500 fan for long time.

I have one of my projects that is recessed but fit where the trem is blocked against the body. not sure if the body builder did it on purpose or just worked out that way for me.

I personally only played floating trems from 1985 until my stroke in 2012

Recessed Floyds need to be over engineered to work properly/pull up on the bar. If you have a trem stop on it; what's the point of having it - you've just cut away a bunch of wood from the guitar body for no reason because you're not pulling up.

Rest a floyd directly to the body and adjust your neck pocket with a shim. Least amount of floyd work - maximum tone and reliability.
