I was a Raider fan back then, so I didn't mind the one SB lost.

Three teams with Tarkington went to the Super Bowl (once with Joe Kapp)……they were great teams but just had the misfortune of running into all time great teams in the Super Bowl….the Steelers and Dolphins Dynasties and the best Raider team ever.

I once watched a video about the 1976 Oakland Raiders, and I will paraphrase (poorly) one part Madden said.

"Before the season, I knew we had the best players, so I decided I was just going to let them play. On defense, we were going to run a Cover 1, everyone would know we are going to run a Cover 1, and we are going to dare them to beat it. On offense, we are going to run behind Upshaw and Shell, everyone is going to know we are going to run behind Upshaw and Shell, and we are going to dare them to stop it."

Just thought it was great the way he laid out his plan for the year, and that is what he told his players.

Ted Hendricks was a one man gang at outside linebacker. Not Lawrence Taylor one man gang nobody was or is still. There where guys in the league who could block Ted occasionally. LT nobody. Robert Irsay was extra heavy drunk the day he traded Ted to Green Bay. And then whoever the Green Bay GM was who traded him to Oakland equally as drunk. Two of the dumbest trades in NFL history. Ted was also to say the least crazy and Madden allowed it as long as they won. Howie Long tells great Ted stories. One I remember is when they played the Dolphins and Ted starts yelling from the field to Shula. Don you can't run that play on me I have your playbook. Going back to his Baltimore days

    Great teams lose games.

    It happens. Should've happened there...glad it didn't.

98 yards in under two minutes with no timeouts is pretty good. Good thing I kept watching!

Be good for anyone. But crazy for a guy who just got here and wasn’t exactly playing well. To be kind.

Especially for a new QB. Have to wonder about those helmet headbutts…
