Surprised this one isn't here unless I missed it. I know it's a tired argument, but it was fun listening to some of the callers and their opinions.

This one has quite literally been going on since forever, or at least 36 years and counting...

Who's going to argue vehemently for one side in 2022, instead of just saying "if only we were lucky enough to have another year like 1986 when two really great records were released." Grateful to have lived it.

EEAS is a great record, but it has too many fillers on it. I know many will say the same about 5150, but I'm one of the odd ones that even loves Get Up and Inside. Going back and listening to songs from both albums, Vai just doesn't have the swagger and looseness to his playing that Eddie does that is so hard to imitate. It's what really made Ed stand out from the rest of the gunslingers.

    Disagree 100%

    Fillers? Where?

    Vai doesn’t have swagger?

His very first “hit” was all about it.

"He has a swaggering retro machismo that will give hives to the Steinem cabal" -Camille Paglia on Donald Trump

"But, fucking with Brook is like fucking with hot shit on and ax handle. You just don't get a grip"-track5

"Make way for the bad guy"- Tony Montana

'This hamburger don't need no helper"- David Lee Roth

"I wish Bon Jovi would've given me a call before he recorded all of his hits, because the lyrics would've been smarter, the melodies would've been much more smashing, and they would've sold a lot fewer records." -David Lee Roth

"My beef is people thinking Bon Jovi is good cuz they sold lots of records to housewives." -tango

"But being number one doesn’t really mean jack fuck all. We sold twice as many records as other records that year (1984) that landed in the Number One position." ~Eddie Van Halen

Just play them both like some kind of demented double album and everyone STFU!

That's what I did back in '87 when I made one mix tape that shuffled all the songs from both albums. It was actually quite a hit around the campfire that summer.

I like Roth-VH more than Sammy-VH (but not by much) and I still like 5150 much better. The reason: Edward Van Halen
