I like this better than most of the stuff he's released since DLR Band. Just wish he wouldn't scream in a song like this though. Just a mellow song, like "Could this be Magic?" or "79th and Sunset." I'd probably add it to my iphone otherwise.
    Right here I say....

I don't get all the love for this song other than Dave releasing something new. It goes against everything that all the Dave faithful talk about him when it comes to who is your favorite Van Halen singer.

It's just that it's something new that's all. I don't think everybody thinks it's Grammy award stuff.

We do tend to overblow these things.

It does sound like a song written by someone spending huge amounts of time alone in his giant house, reflecting on the past.

The tempo (at least towards the beginning, after the intro) reminds me of Sammy's "Halfway to Memphis".

Finally getting around to listening to this, now.

Was fully prepared to critique the fuck out of it but it's good and Dave sounded good, as well. Can't for the life of me understand why he doesn't just....y'know....release the fucking album, like anybody else would, but here I am on a VH site still wondering these things.

The only critique I'd have is I just wish Dave would add a bit of production value to his vocals. Ever since ADKOT every recorded vocal he's released sounds like he's sitting right next to me, singing right into my fucking earhole.

Throw some reverb or some kind of ambiance on the vocal so it sits in the fucking track as opposed to on top of it.

You referring to the hundreds of covers he's supposedly recorded? I would love to hear as much of those as possible. That man can make Pink Floyd sound fun.

I remember David's quote saying he intended to release these tunes individually like Drake. I just googled the keywords " David Lee Roth, & Drake", & immediately found the article from Variety. Here's the link. ...

    https://variety.com/2020/music/news/...en-1234844474/

Here's the paragraph...copy & paste...but better to read the whole article on the Variety page.....

nostalgic “Somewhere Over the Rainbow Bar and Grill” (the tune also appears in “The Roth Project”), and he promises there’s more to come.

“My intention was to release the rest of the songs Drake-style, single by single,” Roth says. “That affords a great focus on the individualized tracks, most of which get lost in the shuffle when you release an album. Doesn’t matter if you’re Paul McCartney or Metallica; put out 12, 14 songs and we’re just engineered as primates to go, ‘I like this one and that one… now what’s for

I agree, it would be better to just put it out traditionally as a full album. I disagree with David's idea that the tunes get more individual released as singles one at a time. I think it's the exact opposite. For me it's easier to buy the album. I don't even know if I've heard all the songs yet. I copied the ones from David's Official YouTube channel, & complied them into a playlist.

Dave's not promoting the songs, though. When you release an album - especially someone like him, you have to promote it. I'm not sure if Dave wants to do this. I haven't heard him talk about new music in ages.
