MLB - 2022 thread
I think he’s saying they were heavy underdogs before the series, certainly in 1988. They may have been underdogs in 1981 but them beating the Yankees was not a shock.

1981 was just so WEIRD with the Strike.
Reds were the best team in the NL, but didn't even make the playoffs due to the fucked up half seasons.
I agree with Brett, the Dodgers were not that big of underdogs to the Yanks in 81. LAD had a better overall record than NYY in 81, but they both really tailed off in the 2nd half. LAD or NYY wouldn't have even made the playoffs with regular full season standings. Yankees got hot at the right time, beating the powerhouse Brewers and A's in playoffs.
As a young kid. I really thought the A's were going to win in 81. Rickey Henderson just went wild on the league.

Oh, I remember the 1981 postseason very well. A couple of months into my senior year of high school. The Dodgers went down 0-2 in the first round of the playoffs and then won the next 3 games to advance to the NLCS against the Montreal Expos. They were down 1-2 in that series and won the next 2 (including the deciding game 5 on Rick Monday's go ahead HR in the 9th inning, which I heard on a transistor radio in the hallway of my high school) to advance to the World Series against the Yankees. They were down 0-2 in the WS and rattled off the next 4 to win the World Series for the first time in my life that I was old enough to remember seeing it. They had won it in 1965 over the Minnesota Twins in 7 games. Here are some highlights of the 1981 postseason ...

Good blog analysis of the Orioles lawsuit filed by the one son of Peter Angelos owner of the Orioles against his brother. The owner who's still alive but obviously in a vegetative state is the worst owner in MLB from a win loss % over the last 30 years. So the body is still warm and everyone is positioning including the wife. MLB should demand they sell the team asap. www.drewsmorningdish.com

Achievements:

So the long awaited( for me) Bally's streaming app is set to debut Thursday for the Royals. Four other teams in the coming months.
$20.00 a month that I would gladly pay, but it's only being offered to cord cutters in the KC metro area, Kansas, and Nebraska. Oklahoma Royals fans that aren't cable or satellite customers are still fucked.
Clueless fucks aren't even smart enough to look at what areas/states fall under MLB's blackout restrictions for Royals fans.
Utilize. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
I love coffee and sarcasm.

I know the Marlins and Rays are going to be a part of that. I was wondering how that would work. Wonder if that means it is going to be $20 a month for each team or if both teams will even be available where I’m at. Wish MLB would get a clue. Always trying to find new fans but then they shut the door on them with shit like this. They should just make all teams available everywhere. Didn’t they learn anything from the Braves and Cubs from the TBS and WGN days? Both teams were frequently not very good but they still amassed a lot of fans. We are a transient nation - why can’t some one root for any team they want (so long as it’s not New York)?

NYY with a comeback win over TB. That team always seems to give the Yanks fits. Nice to see them win the series on the road.

Dozed off and woke and woke up just in time for Hicks' HR. What a game. Stanek should have gone with the a couple fast balls to Judge instead of sliders and splitters. Guy throws 100. No sense speeding up Judge's bat.
F the Astros.
Judge is heading into an arbitration hearing today. Just pay him what he wants for the year.
