    Thumbs up

I watched the entire All-Star game. The first half was the most exciting. A few home runs early. Manoah pitched great, Fox had him miked, so I got to hear him talk to their announcers between pitches.

There was an amazing play that looked like the Harlem Globetrotters, a behind the back throw to 2nd! The pitchers totally dominated the hitters the 2nd half of the game. Espinal played well. I am glad the American League won again. I was disappointed that Romano didn't get to pitch.

It is wild that today is Jackie Robinson's wife's 100th birthday!

This was a touching moment. Two of the Blue Jays announcers Buck Martinez and Jamie Campbell are fighting cancer right now. Vladdy and an announcer held up cards to support them.

    Cool

WOW! Did anyone know this? Tom Brady was drafted by the Expos!

The Montreal Expos 507th pick in the 18th round of the 1995 MLB draft, Thomas E. Brady Jr. He would later go on to play football for the University of Michigan, work in Ann Arbor, Michigan for Merrill Lynch and later play in the NFL.

Mixed feelings having the pitchers mic’d up. I guess for an exhibition game it’s fine. Don’t want to see that in the regular season at all.

During the ASG, it was very entertaining. Manoah asking Smoltz what he wanted him to throw--that was pretty cool. "Slider, down, back foot."

I wouldn't want that during actual games, though. They do mic up fielders on Sunday Night baseball for an inning or two. That's kind of neat.

If last night's game were to have ended in a tie, there would have been a HR Derby to break the tie. Would've been better than playing extras.

yeah, i thought that was cool the occasional time they had players mic'ed up. Wouldn't want that in a game that counted though. Sucks the National League lost again. At least Sandy held up his end.

    Default MLB - 2022 thread

Thankfully the stupid ass pointless All-Star game does not determine home-field advantage in the World Series anymore. That was such an idiotic rule. Like somebody playing on a 100-loss team gives two shits about that. The game was to be a fun showcase for the best players in the sport, and should never have had anything to do with the actual games being played during the season, let alone dictating anything with regards to the World Series.

I just donít understand caring about who wins this game. The NL could lose the next 100 games who cares. At least the NBA doesnít even do a conference vs. conference thing anymore, they realized how stupid the whole thing is, and just want it to be fun. Baseball should figure that out too. In baseballís defense though I think it is finally trying to do that. I use ďtryingĒ very loosely however.

Agreed. It's just for entertainment and should never mean anything outside of that, especially determining anything in the postseason.

I do think, however, the MLB ASG should remain Al vs NL. Again, I know it means nothing but I at least like that structure. IDK, maybe it has something to do with seeing players from rival teams play together. I've a feeling, however, that it'll eventually follow the NBA's lead and mix everything up. Hell, might as well just have the guys play slow-pitch softball. lol

The structure doesnít mean anything to me anymore because interleague play ruined all the AL versus NL mystique. So thatís why I donít care about that anymore. If the two leagues didnít play each other during the regular season Iíd say leave it alone. But they do. No they donít play everyone every year but they play a lot of teams from the other league and eventually they play everyone in the course of just a couple years.

Plus with the DH now in the NL there really is no difference between the two leagues. Unfortunately.

I get that. I do understand that my preference means less and less with each league change.

For further dilution, next year every team will be on each team's schedule. No more playing division rivals 19 times each year. You'll now face every team in MLB in each season.

yep, they've totally destroyed the national league as far as i'm concerned. Used to still be special even after the advent of ridiculous interleague play, but now with the ridiculous designated hitter and even more interleague play on the way, there won't be any difference. Which sucks.

Maybe it's fitting that they had the players in gold plated uniforms...

I don't even want the fielders mic'd during the games. Bad enough the announcers are talking 24/7 instead of letting the game breathe.

I found the entire video, I was also very entertained by it! Manoah said he usually talks to himself when he pitches, so he liked talking to someone else for a change.

For me, baseball was best when there were 4 divisions and a team had to win their division to advance to the postseason. I'm just an old school/OG guy at heart.
