Default 1984 Live at San Diego Sports Arena

Anyone familiar with this disc that says it was released for fan club members in ‘96? Disc print says Dave’s Last Stand. Having my son liquidate my collection as I don’t own a CD player and collecting dust, trying to decide if I should hold onto this one. Thanks.

Just pulled that boot up, dear Lord they opened up at about a gazillion miles an hour with Unchained. Would love to put that in a DAW and see what BPM they played that at...I would argue it was at maximum cocaine+adrenaline speed.

It is an incomplete "B" quality recording. Maybe convert it to digital if you want to save it.

    there are 2 different versions.

The incomplete one is the 1996 version he was talking about with "Dave's last stand" on the disc.

There is also a complete better version that was released in 2002. http://www.vhboots.com/sundownsandiego.html

The link at mighty vh.net just mixes them up as well.

Thats my only complaint about 1984 tour. It's too fast.

Why is it that everything is always sped up in concert? Ok, adrenaline but it sounds like shit. It doesn't even sound like the same song from the record.

It's actually pretty rare that bands play songs live in faster, higher tunings then the studio version. More often then not, it's the opposite - bands tune down and play a song slower usually to suit their singers' vocals, especially when they get older.

In Van Halen's case, in 1984, you can guess they were pretty coked up by the time they hit the stage.

At the US Festival, if you watch the whole thing, you can catch Dave at one point going to the side of the stage to do a bump. Dave in the mid-80's was supposedly a legendary coke fiend, with some of the not so flattering stories that go along with it.

Yeah, Dave actually rallies a bit during parts of the 2nd half of the show (US FEST). PERFORMANCE ENHANCER!!!

Also after the break before the encore.....lol...
