that was just such a wacky place to have a race, but they pulled it off. Hard to tell what the crowd was - sparse during the heat races but seemed to have picked up a bit for the main feature. Still seemed to be quite a few empty seats.

As for the race - well, would've liked to have a few more changes for the lead during the races - most of the passing was back in the pack. I guess we'll see in three weeks...

I used to follow NASCAR religiously in the 90's. Dale Earnhardt was my hero. My heart was ripped out when he died at Daytona and I lost interest. I was just reading about their NextGen cars they are starting to use this year. Looks like NASCAR is finally joining the 21st century and going to IRS rear ends. I still have a really hard time watching Camrys race with Mustangs and Camaros. I miss the old "Race on Sunday, buy on Monday" mentality. Last time I checked, Camry's are not V8 and rear wheel drive. At least the Camaros and Mustangs are.

They also need to get away from all the cookie cutter tracks that are all the same (except for a few), and their drivers are all whiny punks.

Most everyone I know stopped watching after Dale broke his neck .The whole thing became civilized after that.

I hope the racing today is better than what we saw the other night. The second duel seemed more competitive than the first but still I can’t recall seeing so many cars straight up lose the draft and get lapped. I miss the old days of superspeedway racing when the lead changed, it almost felt like, every lap - sometimes multiple times. Not waiting to see who has the quicker pit stop.

Biggest thing I noticed, and maybe it’s been like this for awhile, is the bottom of the car is flat! Don’t know if that’s just a superspeedway thing, or everywhere. My racing champions and matchbox have more going on on the bottom. Maybe Denny Hamlin will flip so we can see what the bottom looks like on a non superspeedway!

i thought the racing was decent yesterday - which is fitting because they plan to reconfigure the track as a short track. And while NASCAR could probably use a couple more short tracks for the big show, let's take out some of the tracks where it's 200 laps of follow the leader and the only passing for the lead occurs on pit road. I didn't hear any mention of the plans during the broadcast yesterday, so maybe they're no longer planning on changing the track. Or maybe we'll find out that this nextgen car is going to lead to better racing at all of the tracks.

Probably a wait-and-see type of deal with the new cars.

Repaved/reconfigured track in Atlanta made for some interesting racing yesterday. William Byron with the win.

gotta wonder how the modern fans do it with the merchandising. Back when I was buying stuff, you'd buy a t-shirt or a die-cast and your driver's car would look like that for the whole season - maybe a one-off here and there, but still. Now they have a different paint scheme - and that's in factual because it's really a wrap - every week it feels like. Heck, sometimes even within teams - the 2 car looked like the 12 normally does and i recall at least one instance yesterday where one of the guys called him "Blaney". Some of these designs get real creative, but I kind of miss the day of the instantly recognisable car.
