1984 Floyd Rose on Black and White Striped Series
I am sure it has been done by many, but I put one on last night and now the strings almost lay on the fretboard. Are the EVH Floyd's different than the 1984's in saddle height etc?

Wondering if I put a 2nd block shim on it if it will help? I put the EVH one back on and the string action and height is perfect for me.

The EVH Floyds are just Floyd 1000s, made from the same material as OFRs but in a Korean Factory. The Floyd Specials are made in the Korean factory with cheaper materials.
You could swap the '84 on, raise the posts, and try to get the action right. But I agree with MF5150 - if it ain't broke don't fix it. Leave the EVH Floyd on the guitar and use the '84 on something else.

1984 Floyd Rose on Black and White Striped Series
The 1000 Floyds, material-wise, are the same exact ones made in Germany, just put together in Korea like Jedi said. Now if it was a Special I would say yeah it makes sense to upgrade it, since it is lower grade materials.

After researching I have noticed my 1984 Floyd has 1 long shim under the 4 middle saddles. I believe that means it is for a non 12-16 compound radius. If I remove that will that make it so the 1984 Floyd will work?
