This current crop of politicians may want to be easy on crime, but once their Amazon shipments start disappearing look out! This might actually be a good thing in the long run.

This has been going on for a long time along that stretch of LA. It's finally getting attention for several reasons - the past year, trains have been really getting backed up and sit mostly unattended in that shitty part of LA for days at a time waiting to line up to be unloaded, the fact that the area is getting absolutely trashed with discarded boxes and unwanted items and of course, the growing outrage that these kind of "minor" crimes are going more or less unpunished. It's come to a head the past week when a train derailed there right in the middle of all that garbage.

You mean this is... real? ...and I thought it was just an overblown story being pushed on every FNC prime time show last night.

Seriously though... that's some scary third world shit happening in major metropolises. This is a human problem that humans don't seem to give a fuck about.

It seems to be a perfect storm of COVID job losses (demand), a diminished work force due to COVID protocols and sickness when it comes to police in the area and UP security, lay of the land that makes the thieving easier, and trains sitting there due to supply issues.
The other problem is, most of the people they encounter are walking down the street with an item and simply claim they found it on the street, which isn’t uneasily disproven.
The area where this happens is like a tunnel with the top uncovered so you can’t be seen when you do this. Most of the people they catch they can only get for trespassing.
According to the Journal, the LA District Attorney issued a memo decriminalizing trespassing and loitering, and isn’t even prosecuting the thefts that count as “grand theft,” which is the type of thing that gives criminal justice reformers a bad name.
