Default 2022 Beijing Olympics starts Feb 4th

Remember the Rio games Zika virus scare? Sounds almost quaint now, doesn't it. Along with the sofas submerged in the kayaking venues and the poo contaminated waterways and green pools at the swimming venues and the uninhabitable athletes village. Japan managed to pull off the summer games without too much problems, but also without too many spectators. China is allowing local spectators to events

But how will they pull off an Olympic competition in the home of Covid? Well they have robots doing food service. Very Jetsons and lots and lots of plexiglass screens

    https://www.cnn.com/videos/business/...g.cnn-business

Since the games start on February 4th and most commercial flights to China are expected to be discontinued by China next week, athletes, trainers, officials and support staff as well as journalists are going to have to take special credentialed flights. CAUSE CHINA DOESN"T WANT ANYONE TO BRING IN COVID. They have been locking down whole cities for months to avoid spread but they haven't been able to dodge it....they just reported their first case of omicron 3 weeks before the games start. There should be a pretty good explosion of cases by the time the world arrives at their doorstep. That's almost comical

Seems like China's biggest problem tho is going to be lack of snow. Yep Beijing is neither mountainous nor snowy. How the heck did they even get this event? So outdoor events are going to be held in a couple of cities 55 miles and 100 miles from Beijing. And THESE cities get very little snow. One of those cities gets 2 inches of snow per year and the other gets 8 inches per year on average.

So how are they going to bring enough snow to a city on the edge of the Gobi desert. They'll use the Sochi technique where Sochi used snow machines to generate enough snow. But the amount of water needed to make that snow may deplete already stressed reserves.

It's going to be interesting. A very fake looking winter Oympics with man made show interrupting the brown landscape of a non wintery location in the home of Covid.

Used to enjoy watching the Olympics, but will avoid this one.
No need to support the home countries human rights abuse.

I've lost all interest in the Olympics.

Not sure why, but I will barely watch any of it.

Ditto....Last one I watched was miracle on ice. Dorothy Hamill was a client where I worked for many years until she moved out of Maryland. Nice gal totally regular not phony. If she's not wearing makeup you would not know its her.

The US looking the other way while little girls were getting sexually molested might have something to do with my apathy towards the event.

pedophiles go where the kids are unfortunately. Tragically these high level athletes end up training in camps far from home and fall victim to terrible people. When you think about those girls in gymnastics who were held up as American Heroes in one respect and testified in congress and in court that they were all molested

Couldn’t care less. The US sucks at almost everything when it comes to the Winter Olympics. We are a Summer Olympics country.

But I barely watched last summer’s Olympics as well. I seem to find I am less interested in the Olympics in general as I’ve gotten older.

I have much less interest in the Olympics now than I did 20 years ago

But the down hill skiing is exciting, figure skating, short track speed skating, luge and bobsled and skeleton, ski jumping and my favorite stuff... free style skiing and all the snow boarding. Now THAT's fun to watch.

But curling? sorry Canada, you invented a dumb game. and cross country skiing? That's boring to DO let alone watch. Hockey? only if the US is going for a medal. all the early rounds are a skip

I always find myself rooting for the Scandinavian countries in the Winter Olympics. Norway especially.

    No real reason.

I casually watch the Olympics, but won't go out of my way to watch. If I sit down and watch TV and they're on, I'll watch, unless it is figure skating. Never did like that sport (but very much appreciate the athleticism needed for it!).

I've never really watched. I don't care. I do like the commercials for cars and such when they have to type up a summary on screen of who the hell the Olympic star is that's driving it.
