    Default Black Sabbath with EVH?!

From a recent Tony Martin interview:

"I've searched through… I've got hundreds of tapes — things from the writing sessions," he said. "I've got the tapes when Eddie Van Halen was with us writing on 'Cross Purposes'. I sent that over to Tony. That appeared on YouTube; I don't know how that got out. But I've got all sorts of stuff like that. And I thought that was the kind of thing that they would reissue the albums with. But I have no idea. You probably know more than me."

Has anyone heard this? ( not the finished song, the version with Eddie playing)

Per Tony Iommi, Ed played on the album version if memory serves of Evil Eye, Tony did the main riff, Ed did the fills.

    That's not a bad song.

I know almost nothing of this era of Black Sabbath. Fucking A Geezer had a great bass tone.

Ed played on a demo version of "Evil Eye", which remains unreleased.
He did not play on the released album version.
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

The honestly out of place opening solo sounds a lot like Eddie, not Tony copying Ed's demo take as many Sabbath fans speculate. Everything else on the track is definitely Iommi.

Regarding the mid-80's to mid-90's era of Black Sabbath post-Born Again album, there's a lot of great stuff mixed in with a fair amount of mediocre material. The '92 Dio reunion album "Dehumanizer" is mostly great, imo but the two albums that followed with Martin (Forbidden and Cross Purposes) in the mid-90's are pretty much the low point in the Sabbath catalog. Prior to Dehumanizer, there's a string of 4 Sabbath albums that all have at least 3-4 really good tunes on each of them that I'd recommend checking out. "Seventh Star" is essentially a Iommi solo album with Glenn Hughes on vocals. Speaking of Iommi solo stuff, his now overlooked self-titled solo album from 2000 with different singers on each track is highly recommended.

Well Tony Martin is saying it has leaked. Geoff Nichols' estate has leaked a bunch of stuff, not sure if that's part of it. Ed's not on the record, but the demo would be awesome to hear.

I have haven't heard it if it has been leaked. The Nichols' estate leaks I heard were Dio era demos.

I have a Toni Iommi interview somewhere either bookmarked or in a magazine of which he tells a story about Eddie being in England on vacation with Valerie. I believe he called him up and they went to a music store to borrow one a Peavey Wolfgang and then hung out at the studio messing around with some stuff. Toni claims he has tapes of those sessions and will "dig them up some time."

I may be off on some details but I do remember this.....
    It's 5150 time!

Ah, I misunderstood Mr. Iommi, thought he was saying Ed played those fills in the early part of the tune.
