Default Is this Van Halen's best all-around song?

This favorite deep cut of mine came on Ozzy's Boneyard yesterday while I was out and about. This song exemplifies virtually everything that made Van Halen such an amazing band. Eddie's beautifully melodic guitar intro. Alex's driving drums. Dave's clever lyrics. Mike's thumping bass and stellar background vocals. The classic VH breakdown and a killer solo from King Edward.

"Well ain't life grand when ya finally hit it
I'm always a sucker for a real good time
Woke up in line, found I almost missed it
Ain't I glad that love is blind"

"It's so lonely at the top because it's so crowded at the bottom" - Diamond David Lee Roth

"The truth sounds like hate to those who hate the truth" - Todd Wagner

well, i'm not one for crowning "best" (unless it's the Patriots beating one of your football teams - just kidding!), but it is definitely a stellar display of what made Van Halen special.

Great song. One of my favorites.

I guess it did lack the "POP" sensibilities to make a HIT for the masses. Ted/Noel/Dave/Ed did not pick it for a single. It also was not played on the 1980 Tour, they chose the Bright Lights, Big City cover over it.

I would say that most typical VH fans have never heard it. Especially the post-1986 fans. Deep cut.

I wrote it before in a previous thread discussing the song "Secrets"...................but to me, "In A Simple Rhyme" is the song that should have been a single and went on to become a staple VH song on rock radio. Why Warner Brothers never did push this song is a mystery to me. As it is today, it's a deep cut that the dedicated VH fan knows and loves.

It's one of the best VH songs ever... but also one of the most ignored songs by the band. It had no fans within the band, except maybe Wolfie who brought it back to the setlist.

To me the breakdown shows Ed's Genesis influence.

Great great VH song, but not their very best. I like how unique and original it is compared to their other stuff.

I remember listening to some show on the radio (probably in the late 80s) where Eddie and Sammy were at a radio station taking calls from fans. Some guy mentioned In A Simple Rhyme as one of his favorite VH tunes and neither Eddie nor Sammy seemed to have any idea what that song was.

The breakdown at 2:10 is simply heaven.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.
