Best of the worst
I know we all want to forget 04 (saw them twice that tour and it broke my heart) but occasionally I'll come across a clip from that tour and think "that was a cool little riff or fill". It makes me wonder if there was a night or two where Ed, as impaired and unhinged as he was, whipped out something unexpectedly great. I remember someone on here years ago singing the praises of his solo from Halloween night on that tour because it was so different and off the cuff from the rehearsed solo we've heard so many times before. Was there any moments of greatness from 04 or is it better left forgotten?

I saw the opening night of this tour in Greensboro,NC, and thought Ed was fine and OK that night. The band as a whole was a little rusty, but Ed sounded good overall if my memory is correct all these years later. However, I saw them again later on the tour in Washington DC with my wife this time, and that was single-handedly the worst VH show I ever attended and it was mostly due to Ed. His playing was so sloppy, and it was obvious to me that he was not right and likely being affected by whatever chemicals he had ingested. It was sad for me to watch and hear. That was the first time my wife ever saw VH, and she thought Ed was great that night. I told her I was glad she enjoyed it, but that she did not see Eddie anywhere near peak form.
Luckily, we both saw VH and Ed together again on the last tour in 2015, and Ed was on his game and she got to see the true legend that night.

I skipped that tour completely because of the bad reviews. Also, I knew something wasn't right with Ed. Putting black sharpie on the back of his guitar neck (seen on Entertainment Tonight) to remind him where on the guitar to play certain songs.

I saw them in Atlanta that year. I didn’t really know what was up but I had a good time.

I saw the Calgary show, primarily as a buddy and I were able to source tickets last minute (not sold out). Unfortunately the reviews I had heard before were prophetic. One of the worst shows I had seen. There was the hammered dude on guitar, as well as the frontman, who spent more time signing stuff than bothering to sing well. Sad all around.

I saw VH in Toronto in 2004. It was a great show, Ed was spectacular that night! The crowd was screaming ED! ED! ED all night! I was also happy I got to hear songs like Humans Being & The Seventh Seal live.
It's a shame Ed was drunk at some other shows, but I lucked out.Right Now you're reading my post!

Show I saw in Mid-August 2004 in Sacramento was ok. Not horrible, not great.
Cool seeing Mike do SGMAD. Similar to 98.
Unchained was ok. Sam seemed to at least do most of the lyrics.
The 5150 and Fuck hits went over well with the crowd.
I have bootleg DVDs of several shows from that tour. Philly, NJ, Denver, Sacramento, Cincinnati, Calgary..... But I haven't watched them in 15 years...haha.....

There are a few shows online where Ed seems to be playing perfectly fine.
Shows I saw:
Toronto was well above serviceable for a 2004 EVH performance.
Hamilton was an embarrassment.

Dallas wasn't too bad from what I remember. His solo spot was...let's just say it was experimental. Ha ha. The really bad thing on that tour were the ticket prices. I had a floor seat in the middle of the arena and it was 135 bucks! I wasn't even close to front row. And that was the price printed on the ticket--not from a scalper. That's 197 dollars when you consider inflation. And then when you saw the performance...
A few years later, AC/DC played the same arena. Similar seats were only 100, and it was a much better show.Leave everything to me!-Powdered Toast Man

Saw them in Worcester and Hartford. Those shows weren’t the best that’s for sure.
Ed did wear a Hartford Whalers jersey at the end of the Hartford show so that was pretty cool.Remember the Heroes - 9/11/01

I saw them in DC in 04 mid arena I was pretty lit up that night to but they sounded good to me. I had this chick with me who flew in from West TX and she was wild and crazy so it didn't matter lol.

I never saw VH in the 80’s or 90’s but I have to assume the sound on the 04 Tour was some of the worst they had.
They should have called it The Brickwall Tour everything was so fucking loud.

I like bragging about ramen noodles but they really are the bomb. I'm always on the lookout for perking them up. Cheetos are now very popular. So are Cheese Its and Goldfish. When it's late night and...
McDonalds, and be honest.
