Led Zeppelin is still a great band but they also spawned Kingdom Come, Greta and host of other LZ inspired bands.

Van Halen is the middle child to those sensitive males with pony tails. They absolutely adore the music from the 60's and 70's. The Marsha of rock music. Then you have the alternative and blues revival starting in the 80's. U2, REM, SRV, Nirvana, PJ, ANC, etc All great but these are the Cindy's.

The music VH helped bring to the forefront are Jan's Looked down upon and mostly forgotten or pushed to the side. Yes Eddie gets respect but we all know that sometimes you pay respect because you have a mic in your face. IMO he should be respected more.

Yeah he kind of had his Eddie thing down but that is called a style. I can listen to pretty much any guitarist and know the lick that is coming up. SRV for example. Great guitarist but half of the licks are standard blues licks. Albert King played them. Eric did, Jimi, etc. I can do that for every guy. Unless Eddie was trying to imitate a guy like Clapton during When Its Love, its just Eddie. That's why he was so great. You can hear him on an acoustic and you know its him within a few seconds.

There also is this feeling that he ruined guitar. If he did, then Hendrix did the same. However they didn't. They simply changed the way guitar was played

I find it hilarious that there are Van Halen fans who think that Ed doesn’t get the credit he deserves.

Is Ed universally considered the GOAT?

    No?

Then it's not so hilarious because he is. Better than Hendrix, Clapton, Page Vaughan, Allman. I could go on but why bother.

much like ziggy said, they won’t let Edward be number one because they don’t like what Edward represented, total machismo domination of his area. only a very special type of man can be Edward, and the world hates that type of man. the world loves the type of men that ziggy has talked about though, unfortunately.

no, i’m not satisfied until there is a statue and every shit publication comes out and re ranks Edward as #1 after apologizing for keeping him from that spot for their own bullshit. I’m not satisfied until there is a holiday, i’m not satisfied until Edward is recognized as the national hero he is.

Ed is Elvis of the guitar. The Big Bang. No offense to others.. That's the recognition he deserves imo.

Kurt Cobain at #12? Yeah, I'm sure he is up in heaven right now giving guitar lessons to Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads.

Yeah, I like what Slash said about Edward being a triple threat: technical chops AND musicality AND innovation.

There are a lot of guitarists on that list who have one or two of those qualities. I'm sure Ed's not the only one who possesses all three, but he has all three in spades. Plus, he's pretty.

Oh man... that list. I remember when that list came out. Rolling Stone got some serious blowback from that. Their revised list had Eddie at 8th. Still too low.

I think another thing that keeps Eddie from the top. He made it look soooo easy. I think its difficult for some people to identify with someone who makes it look so effortless. That can't understand it. They would rather see someone struggle (because they know they would struggle), especially when doing something so superhuman.
