Default Crowd surge kills at least 8 at Houston music festival

    https://apnews.com/article/travis-sc...57aa1c6f71f9bf

Amy Harris, a freelance photographer for The Associated Press, described an “aggressive” crowd atmosphere throughout the day because of the way fans were behaving — pushing and rushing the stage barricades and prohibited VIP and admission areas.

“It was definitely the most chaotic festival environment that I’ve been in,” Harris said. “I felt uneasy all day.”

At one point, she got trapped behind a barricade while photographing performer Don Toliver because about 300 fans rushed the area. They ended up behind the security barricade with her.

    “I was scared,” she said.

This video has context for how the crowd was stationed in the daytime. There appears to be an area, for the VIP's near the front that has a lot of room, but probably filled up by the time the main act came onstage. What has not yet been revealed, is where exactly the crush of fans was that caused the injuries and deaths. Was it at the very front of the stage, or was it at some barrier area section before that? Also, did fans jump over barriers to get to the section near the stage? Many unanswered questions at this time.

I mean, I’d wish I was dead if I had ended up listening to Travis Scott.

I was at the first Lollapolooza at Blossom Music Center in 1991, and we got the fuck out of the pavilion as soon as a twenty foot metal railing that got torn from the concrete got passed over our heads and thrown on people at the front of the stage.

I was at a Kiss show back in the 80's, don't remember the tour, but they didn't have on make-up, and I believe King Cobra opened for them. I'm not a fan but it was the Decade of Decadence, and I was all up in that shit.

We started off about twenty or so feet from the stage on Gene's side. By the time Kiss took the stage we were up against the barricade from the crowd surging. Paul actually stopped the show and pleaded with everyone on the floor to "take a couple of steps" back because people were getting smashed against the barricade. Security was pulling females across as a lot of them were crying. They just seemed to look at us guys like, "well you deserve it." I was yelling that I couldn't breathe and they finally pulled me over. I had a crease on my stomach for a while where I was being crushed. That was truly some scary shit.

This is why my very first concert 5150 cured a 14 year old from ever wanting GA again. It was exciting to be at a rock concert but I was miserable and wanted to cry actually. Couldn't breathe. Was hot and sweaty and I don't even remember if my feet were actually on the ground and there's those assholes that ram thru to get closer to the stage while this sea of humanity is just being pulled from side to side and backwards and forwards.

    Fuck GA in an arena.

I had no idea what genre of music this event was. I'm old... I just figured Travis Scott was a country star.

Jesus Christ. Some guy working security was pricked with a needle while restraining somebody and fell unconscious right after.

TRAVIS SCOTT ASTROWORLD SECURITY PRICKED IN NECK ...
    W/ Needle, Says Houston PD

1:48 PM PT -- The Houston PD's Chief, Troy Finner, just confirmed what we'd been told ... namely, that at least one person had been injected with something via needle -- and there well may have been more.
Chief Finner said a security guard working the event felt a prick in his neck by an unknown assailant while he was trying to restrain a citizen -- and he quickly fell unconscious. Finner says the guard was revived by use of NARCAN ... and that medical personnel did, indeed, see something on his neck that indicated he'd been stabbed with a syringe.
Finner also said some people had been trampled, so it appears there was a mix of reasons why people were injured/passing out ... and perhaps why some died. The total number of people who've passed away remains at 8, and autopsies are underway to determine the causes of death for each.

There was a report over night of something druggy going on. No clear info and very confusing. Needles were mentioned and the first thing I thought was vaxxers vaxxing the anti-vaxxers?

I know, silly. It was on the news.

Edit: Unnecessary use of panic and fear in sentence form that only I would encounter.

I watched some fan video of Travis's performance, and I got nothing out of it. I do not have the wavelength receptors for what he is transmitting. Reminds me of a SuperBowl performer a few years back, that I got nothing out of. He had some ridiculous stage name like "The Package". I was young once, and I just cannot imagine my younger self ever getting into this kind of music.

I feel so sorry for the people. The only thing I can relate to is moshing and falling down hoping not to get stepped on with some steel toe Dr Martens. However always got picked up.

Yeah I thought this guy was country. I mean a name like Travis is almost a requirement. Yeah I don't get this type of music. Not today. Its would be if 50,000 people attended a concert by Sugar Ray in 2000. You would look back on it and go "WTF was I thinking?" However this and many artists today are not even worth the hair gel for Mark McGrath's coif
