Players are getting ridiculous contracts to play a fucking children's game. Even borderline major league players are making life altering money.

At a certain point, even though the owners are billionaires, I get tired of listening to the players bitch about how bad they have it.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

In fairness, they've been locked out. No one, even with a great gig, offers to take a pay cut for a corporation shitting profits.

Dave Van Horne, Marlins wonderful radio broadcaster, retires. He didn't do the full schedule last year, but i never heard whether it was his choice, or ownership. Not sure why he would be forced out, but seems that if it was a case he wanted to cut back I would've read something. And the way some other long time Marlin associated people got forced out since Jeter and company took over, another one wouldn't surprise me. Thanks for the calls, Mr. Van Horne.

They need to worry about the long term health of the sport instead of trying to milk every dollar they can today.

Very few young kids have any interest in football, lacrosse is killing it, at least in my area.

Exactly. How about lowering ticket prices so you don’t have to mortgage a house to take a family to a game. Of course, they would never do that.

Youth baseball is still very popular in my neck of the woods. Lacrosse is certainly growing, though. Hell, the fact that I've heard some of my friends' kids in high school even mention lacrosse, speaks volumes. I imagine all it would take is some primetime professional/college lacrosse matches to be televised and it would blow up much more.

But baseball isn't what it used to be when I was a kid. Now it's travel teams, and a LOT more of an inconvenience for the parents, especially if the kid is only moderately interested in the sport. And it's quite an investment, expensive. Not like the Little League I grew up with. lol

My kids had no interest in little league Bb that's 30 years ago. Can't imagine how bad it is now. In PA football rules even in pee wee. Big brother starts watching at an early age.

Travel baseball has killed the sport in my opinion. You are asking kids to make a spring/summer/fall sport commitment now 6th grade or earlier. Kids that want to play other sports are going to be behind when they come back in the Spring.

None of these kids sports should be year round endeavors until their Junior year in high school, at the earliest. We should be encouraging kids to play a fall sport, a winter sport and spring sport...different ones. Builds better overall athletes, helps their social skills, you name it.

Baseball is my youngest son's favorite sport. But he also likes basketball, lacrosse, and wants to play football in the Fall. Asking him to commit to a nine month baseball season travelling most weekends at 14 years old is asinine to me, and the kids that don't do it have minimal chance making the HS baseball team if they aren't on one of the travel squads, unless you are an elite level athlete.

Can you tell I don't like travel baseball?
