Default 2021-2022 MLB Hot (or Not) Stove thread

go ahead and keep talking about 2021 in the other thread, but I wanted to get this started as I feel it's going to be a busy winter...until it's not.

Let's see how MLB screws things up this time...

With the CBA expiring in weeks, I hope the season begins on time next year. Hell, I hope there is a season next year.

if MLB goes on lockdown, does it take MiLB with it? Can't recall what happened in previous work stoppages, and it might not matter anyway as MiLB is more under the MLB umbrella than they used to be so it could be different. I don't know - maybe I'll be checking out the Stetson College team next season...

He crushed in AA and AAA last season.

First "real" season in pro ball too. I followed him all year. Just soooo advanced at such a young age.

Buster Posey just retired. Wow. Unexpected. He had a great rebound year in 2021 after taking 2020 off (he and his wife adopted twins babies during COVID shorten season). .304/.390/.499.

One of the best SF Giants of All time. 3 time World Series Champ. MVP. All Star. Gold Glove. Silver Slugger. Batting Title. ROTY. Franchise icon.

Figured he had several more years to get his HOF resume in order. Get up there with the all-time greats at catcher.

    Great run. Good Giant.

Giants most likely turn to 2018 1st round draft pick Joey Bart in 2022 for catcher. They may also bring in an experienced Vet to back him up. Down the road they also have 2020 1st round pick Patrick Bailey in the pipeline.

A “Good Giant”?….lol. I can probably make a case that Posey is the most beloved San Francisco Giant ever.

I’m not shocked at all by his retirement…he’s been hinting at it for a while now…and he has always stuck me as a guy who had other priorities in life rather than work. I don’t think he ever cared about his numbers or stats so why should he stick around for five more years of wear and tear on his body to pad stats for a sure fire HOF Resume…I’m sure he feels he had nothing more to prove to himself as a baseball player.

    On that thought…question for you:

    Does he have enough of the accolades to be in the Hall?….ROTY/Batting Title/NL MVP/Gold Glove/8 Silver Sluggers/2 Comeback Player/ 3 Rings…am I forgetting something?….career .302

Would he need more HRs and RBIs to make the Hall?….or is he in at some point ?

They absolutely do. And they are loved here…however, Mays and McCovey never won a title here. Posey was the centerpiece of three World Series winning teams…..and the majority of Giants fans never saw either one of those guys play….I can almost guarantee that someone is already planning where Posey’s statue is going to be.

I am obviously biased, I put him in on the first Ballot. Retire his # in SF.

BUT.... It is the career HR/RBI/hits ect for the old school voters. Buster falls short of the guys with elite long careers. He is way behind Bench, Carter, Pudge, Fisk, Yogi Berra, Piazza in the "TRADINTIONAL STATS". Not getting to 2,000 hits really hurts his case (he got 1,500). The 3 rings and awards help him with the old voters though.

Buster was so good defensively, he is #8 all time in career WAR on Fangraphs for Catchers. The new school voters (if there are enough of them, could put him in the HOF).

This is actually a big topic after yesterday. Several articles breaking down his chances.

    https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/i...-hall-of-fame/

    https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/gi...ne-kuiper-says

    https://blogs.fangraphs.com/well-see...-buster-posey/

Will be an interesting debate in a few years.

MLB just had to the worst ratings for a World Series two years in a row now. 2020 = the worst 2021=2nd worst

People are just not invested in watching, and MLB keeps trying to make the games faster yet nothing works.

So lets ADD another batter in the NL...oh boy, that surely will speed up the fucking games.

MLB goes on strike, they may never recover.

Default 2021-2022 MLB Hot (or Not) Stove thread

I think Posey will get him because I believe voters probably like him. His stats are good but I don’t know that they are Hall of Fame stats. I just don’t know that he compiled enough big numbers, and his last few seasons honestly weren’t that good. Obviously last season he had a nice batting average, but his numbers other than that were fairly pedestrian.

I mean it’s still hard for me to get my head around the fact that the Giants won three championships with some of the teams they had, but they did and he was the best offensive player on the team at that time. So yeah he’ll get in even if it’s not the first ballot. I think retiring now only helps him actually. He leaves on a good note and won’t face the almost certain drop off he will have the last four or five years of his career.
