Also, several bands have tried this to mixed reviews.

Motley Crue "Entertainment or Death" (from 1999) takes LIVE cuts from the 80s and 90s. Makes for a pretty weird mix. Sound quality is slightly varied as well.

GnR LIVE ERA 87-93 (released 1999) takes songs from 87 to 93 with different band members even. Some songs have Izzy and Steven. Others have Gilby and Matt. Pretty strange.

Metallica Live Shit B&P from Mexico 1993 is pretty good. It takes the best songs from a 5 night run in Mexico City. Same band, same stadium, same week. Just the best versions selected.

Or of Course VH with RHRN. Songs over the course of 2 nights in Fresno 92, plus a few Faux Live songs from the Studio.....

Various bands have had various levels of success with this style of "Best of" LIVE.

Other bands usually just go with the single LIVE show lately. Warts n all.

    "Few" live faux songs?

Dude, the only thing real about RHRN is the crowd noise.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I think with the technology available now, it wouldn't be too difficult to mix from different nights, especially since my understanding from Dave and Ed's comments on Tokyo Dome was that they soundboard recorded every show.

I guess no need to really get into though, doesn't change the facts that Tokyo Dome is a dud, and none of the other recordings will get cleaned up.

I've long come to accept the fact that we chose this band, they didn't choose us. They've pretty much had the same MO for nearly 50 years, so to expect some kind of big change (or release) is an act of folly.

Kenny Chesney has a live album where on the liner notes, it states what show the song came from.

I think Iron Maiden did one of their live albums the same way.

Think he was referring to the songs VH never played live at all like 'Wont Get Fooled Again' but were on the album.

The rest was performed live and either touched up or completely re-done later. Not every song, that was performed live, was completely re-done though, I don't think.

Depends upon how much you believe Sam. Per him, he had to re-do all his vocals because Ed, Al and Mike re-did their parts.

When I said few, I was mainly talking about the full songs they did in the studio ATBL, LWI, WGFA (with FAUX crowd noise) or the possible Fresno Soundcheck songs MOAM, In n Out (with Faux crowd noise), which were not played in concert in Fresno 5/14 or 5/15 1992. From the Westwood one radio show tape and the Audience recordings of Fresno, you can follow along to see that is where they got the bulk of the "Music" (Guitar/Bass, Drum).

But has DD, mentions, Sam now claims he re-sang every song.

I wouldn't put much stock into what Sam says now about stuff they did 30 years ago. That goes for what he said in his book about anything VH related pre-04. .

If you asked him, right now, what year Balance came out he'd probably tell you the wrong year.

The LWAN songs are much beloved and get mentioned here often, in a positive way. RHRN, not so much. There are a few good moments, but it could've been much better.
