A prop firearm discharged by veteran actor Alec Baldwin, who is producing and starring in a Western movie, killed his director of photography and injured the director Thursday at the movie set outside Santa Fe, authorities said.

Santa Fe County Sheriff’s officials said Halyna Hutchins, director of photography for the movie “Rust,” and director Joel Souza were shot.

I don't understand how this happens. How are live rounds in a gun...on a movie set. Not security etc.

Sad story. While I don't think highly of the man, nobody should have to go through something like this. Can't understand how this can be possible 100 years after prop guns were invented.

Maybe they were shooting scenes using live rounds to make it more realistic? But yeah I'm not sure why live rounds are anywhere near a movie set

They're not supposed to do that. No live rounds on a movie set. Not saying that it's not possible someone slipped in a couple. But there are supposed to be strict safety protocols on sets with firearms.

So is this going to be a criminal case or a civil case or both? RIP to the victim I hope the other one lives and isnt paralysed etc. Kinda like reminds me of Terry Kath who thought the gun was empty.

You would think in this day and age they would have come up with a fake gun that looks and sounds real and doesn't need to be loaded with any type of fucking round.

Speaking of this day and age... there'll probably be a ban on all guns in all films before places like Chicago ever gets straightened out.

I'm sure it was accidental. But let's make it political.

Surprised that it wasn't during filming and aimed at another actor. Seems weird it was the cinematographer and director who got shot.
