Default On Which Album Was EVH's Tone At It's Pinacle?

I am not talking about album production; I am talking about the time during which EVH's tone was at it's pinnacle? I don't expect many to agree with me, but my favorite was during the 1991 / Unlawful Carnal Knowledge era. To me, things started going south on the Balance tour.

In terms of album tones I voted for Fair Warning. It's got the right balance of raw vs. harmonized tone, just enough gain, and the most balanced EQ of the six pack.

If Diver Down had some more low end it may have taken the crown for me.

Anything on the first 4 is godly to my ears, but as Jedi said, Fair Warning takes the cake because of that subtle Eventide H910/H949 tone.

Balance & the 3 new tracks on BOV1 are a solid runner up.

Only thing I don't totally like is the left panned guitar signal.... would be cool to hear the 6PK guitar in stereo.

The rest of the album doesn't stand out to me as much but Ed's guitar tone on the "Dancing in the Street" solo is killer.

Yup I voted 1984... because to me that was a very special sound that bridged the heavy rock sound of his early days and the chorus driven later years. It was heavy, chime, and all kinds of drawl.... My fave...

    WACF and 1984, IMO.

Between those two, 1984 is the tone and rig Id want to play through the most with that 5150 Kramer or a Les Paul loaded with PAFs.

1984 was just pure Plexi volume and sizzle, to my ears.

Gun to my head, I had to go with the first two albums.
"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne

"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello

"A lot of bands mature, which means they get square; they start delivering messages. Hey, you got a message, use Western Union." -DLR
