Mike always did his part. And the backing vocals on MWM are among the best ever, especially during the outro.

Yup. Great song. A more progressive record, with longer songs, would've worked IF they all had been of the same great quality as MWM and CGTSNM.

While I enjoyed Adkot, not as much as some, but if those two songs were on that record they would be my two favorite

As was said earlier, it truly is criminal that we did not get a full album during this period, when Ed was in the MWM/CGTSNM/Humans Being mode. Damn. Just fire tunes, all 3 of them.

I would have loved Humans Being, MWM, and CGTSNM with Sammy on the mic. The follow-up to Balance would have been killer.

I always wondered if Dave was talking about being in Van Halen with that line.

One of my favorite songs: Ed's guitar is so rich, warm, and raw; Al's percussion is incredible; Roth's lyric and vocal performance were stellar (not in a technical way, but the song showcases the unique qualities that makes Roth's voice Roth's). And the chorus...Michael covers that in a way that only he could, but most of all, I can't get over how he carried that note seemingly forever; the guy is a backup singer, not a frontman.

    ***

The second track, Can't Get This Stuff No More, has one of my very favorite solo's of all time; I love both tunes, especially MWM.

ya know, i always thought of MWM and the sustainer outro as Edward’s goodbye. that hit me hard around this time last year, and then he died. it was like the whole band was going “here’s a taste of what we could have done, this is it, see you on the other side”, at least in the sense of what we considered to be “classic” van halen.

It’s also the only song to my knowledge he ever played the stripped Gibson that Steinberger gave to him. With the trans trem and the active pickups.

I know some think he used the peavy but Ed said it was the stripped Gibson.

Very cool. I didn't know that. I always wondered why he never had a deal with Gibson. All those years go by and he ends up signing a deal with "Fender" despite his personal history with Gibson guitars.

As much as I would've loved an album full of this material, part of me thinks it would have been the final nail in the VH coffin and nothing would have come afterwards aside from a tour that would fall apart.

They way all of them talk about the sessions to get both of those songs, you can clearly see they all wanted perfection, but all had different views of what perfection was which equated pulling teeth for all of them.

Which leads me to understand why ADKOT is a miracle in and of itself.

The fadeout on “Beats Workin” from ADKOT sounds like a fadeout of Ed’s soul.
