All Elite Wrestling tried to license VH tune

Listening to the Chris Jericho podcast today and he told a story about their dealings with VH and AC/DC. They tried to license Back in Black and Runnin' With the Devil for a one time use as an entrance song on their show. VH wanted 500k, AC/DC didn't even get back to them.

This is the reason the Download Festival at Donington(formerly Monsters of Rock) was never able to get VH to headline the last decade, though they tried several times. VH's asking price was always too high.

It could have been a way of refusing the license request. I know people who are contractors. And, when they don't really want to take a job they give the potential customers a ridiculously inflated estimate for the job so that the customer goes elsewhere. The problem is the customer often accepts the estimate! 😂 But, now they're making a ton of money off the job, so screw it. In VH's case it could be the band weren't too keen on their tunes being used that way. So, they ask for some insane amount of money to discourage people. But, if the price is met, screw it. At least they got paid WELL.

I would guess that recently due to the lack of actual album sales that these royalty payment amount have increased. That being said, if I were an artist, especially and older artist, I would want my tunes out there in front of as many people as possible. Drive up those spins on Spotify.

Having been in construction for almost 23 years, 14 of those in residential, I can say that this is absolutely true about sometimes "bombing" a potential client with a crazy bid because you just don't really want the job. And, yes, sometimes do say yes and even though the job might be a pain in the ass at least you made a lot of money.
