He became a legend by being over the top 100% enthusiasm
That'll never change on the red carpet.

Want a less excitable Dave than that? Go see the Rogan interview.

Want an actual laid back Dave from what I've read? Be one of the probably few close friends or associates he has. Remember that guy on here who spotted Dave at a local dog show where they compete in herding? Was with his old dog. He saw Dave chilling in a folding chair in overalls in a dirt parking lot with some cohorts, beer in hand shootin the shit. Guarantee he wasn't Vegas Dave sitting in that 10 dollar lawn chair.

He's always been yin and yang it seems. I remember he said once a person will go crazy if they stay in the rock star mode all the time (referring to his trips to third world zones back in the day). No longer does that, replaced with art, kendo or dogs these later years.

Some people will just never get Dave or like him, and that's ok.

When he first said it I for about one second thought, who the fuck is he talking about? Then was like, oh. So yeah, I wasn't wild about the comment. You were Eds singer.
But maybe he meant it to be endearing, who knows

Oh and here's the video to his introduction. Thought it would've been posted by now:

    https://m.facebook.com/groups/751847...3249176092493/

That guy has another video on his page that includes the other part where he announces it. And yes, he says LAATPHT but the guy missed that part while recording.

    Enjoy!

I listened to the DLR clip while I was distracted, so I missed the above point; it's good that you caught it.

DLR would never disrespect Ed; he has always shown a fondness and respect for his creativity, and he had a sense of gratefulness when he came back into the fold in 2007.

Dave is saying that he is carrying on the greatness of Ed/Van Halen with the Vegas show. He's on the red carpet of an awards show, why the fuck would he get all deep in discussion in that arena?

Also, IMHO he's dropping hints about the 50th anniversary with his talking/friendship with Al...
Maybe, “the great Edward Van Halen passed away and there’s no replacing him” or something a little more appropriate. Not suggesting he’s in “hell”.

I love Dave but that was BS, IMHO.

Edit. I just watched again. I totally misinterpreted what he said originally. No harm, no foul.

Made me think of a 1998 interview with Ed where the interviewer asks what he thought of the MTV Welcome Back, Dave commercial. Ed said "It pissed me off. Welcome back to what? I'm nobody's fucking backup guitarist".

ed was such a mother fucker, god i miss that man. the only thing that eclipsed his playing was how many fucks he didn’t give about anything. a true american hero.

Dave wanted to make that comment about Ed and heaven. It was obviously a thought out line.
"My fellow band mate and legendary guitar player passed away:Eddie Van Halen", would have been better.
I wouldn't read anything more into it other than a sloppy setup.
This. He was leading into his prepared line and "my band mate" would have been a much better decision, but when thought of in that context makes what he said much more appropriate.
