I stumbled upon 60 minutes last night after the football coverage. Great episode all about the FDNY on 9/11. Lot of radio transmissions I've never heard from firemen going up the stairs in the towers. Man, they were so close to reaching some people from a stairway that was still intact. There was a woman on a 911 call telling the operator that she thought she heard voices, possibly the firemen coming to rescue. No one thought those towers were going to collapse. They all thought they would eventually put the fires out and get many people to safety. They just needed more time. So sad.

One thought that always comes to my mind when thinking about that horrible day is that they were able to successfully hijack 4 commercial airliners within minutes of each other. Not speaking of the coordination of it, but the actual hijackings. I know we had become complacent and lax with security, but it's not like hijackings had never happened before. You would think that more emphasis would have been placed on not allowing anyone into the cockpit. That was the key to their whole plan. And they were all successful. This is not just me thinking this way as a result of living in a post-9/11 world with enhanced security measures, I remember being surprised by that on that day.

    Default 9/11/01 - Never Forget

Starting 9/11: One Day in America

Looks like a lot of the firefighter footage is going to be from the 2002 documentary 9/11 done by the Naudet brothers. So far, it looks like most of this is going to be that footage interspersed with new interviews, traffic control audio, etc.

That is by far the quintessential ďon the groundĒ 9/11 film or documentary, IMO, but this one seems to be very, very well done. Already seeing footage and insights I havenít seen before.

I'd never seen the footage of the firefighters in the lobby when you can hear the bodies hitting the ground/lobby roof from people jumping.

    That was horrific.

Yeah, that's from that doc 9/11 by the Naudet brothers that Mitch mentioned. Watched that film again over the weekend.

Kind of amazing that they were making a doc about a rookie firefighter at the time in NYC and just happened to go out that morning for a routine gas leak call. And the location of that gas leak allowed them to have a clear view of the towers...when the 1st plane hit. What a harrowing account of that terrible day.

Yeah, that was all from the 02í doc footage. Gut wrenching.

And to echo Jimmyís comments, it was amazing that these filmmakers just happened to be following around these firefighters that day.

These guys also just happened to film the clearest video/audio of the first plane approaching hitting the North tower. Perfectly framed. Perfectly shot. While following those brave men who were just responding to a possible gas leak.

Itís eerie that it was all happenstance.

Iím on Ep 3 currently. The Collapse. This entire thing is incredibly well done, so far.

I remember getting off the subway at the WTC in 2018 on my first trip to NYC. The girlfriend had been to NY many times (she actually gifted this trip to me for Xmas) and was going shopping so I went to the memorial myself.

I was glad I was going myself.

Getting off the subway and walking up the stairs to the street, seeing One World Trade (Freedom Tower) emerge, the first thing I thought of was the sheer weight of it due to its size...and just how horrifically unconscionable a building of that size coming down would be. Especially for anybody within even a 20 block radius.

A solemn, morbid thought. But until youíre 100 ft from a building of that size you realize the videos of the towers collapsing donít fully translate exactly what happened that morning.

I agree, the document is extraordinarily well done. I know what you mean, when you emerge from the Subway at the WTC stop, and go up those stairs: it's a bit overwhelming. The memorial and museum are incredible.
