So amazingly badass and so wicked.. I was completely surprised that Sammy nor Dave ever did anything with it, but maybe they never heard it..
The two tracks were 'You need me' and 'Ambiguous Headdress' I could go on but I hold off. They were working with Danny Kortchmar, Patrick Leonard, and Glen Ballard. Then there were several other tracks that Ed never heard.. Gary found boxes of tapes of amazing music tucked away and pulled several out and added sketches and lyrics to that were amazing but by the time everything ended Ed had never heard them. There are several that i could elaborate on that still to this day stand out among the BEST that VH has ever recorded.. They are that good.
Damn, man. If all of that is as good as you say it is then I really hope it sees the light of day eventually.

Well I hope those songs get released! When I joined this site in 1999 I was excited to hear the 2nd album with Gary. I had a feeling it would be better than VH 3.

P.S. I hope the new Extreme album is released soon!

I wonder how the chorus for "Ambigous Headdress" goes - not the easiest words to sing.

The more I think about this the more it makes me realize Gary had it great in VH. IF he was able to just listen to Ed playing on recorded tracks and pick ones he thought were cool. If this assumption is true imagine being in 5150 listening to those tapes. I have never heard any other VH singer being able to go through those and pick and choose. Even if he did not choose songs but got to listen to them he might be the only person besides Ed that heard them. No matter how it ended with VH, Gary was a very lucky man and I am sure he cherished the time he had in VH.

DLR did exactly that in 96. He originally passed on MWM, listened to a bunch of other ones, and then came back to it.

Probably on a much smaller scale, as it was at first one song, then two, then they were talking about doing an EP, then they fucked it all up.

@ Sterv thanks for sharing all that and the insight you gave us into what went into the followup to VH3 and what it may have sounded like and the ideas behind it, it's definitely appreciated.

It makes me want to hear those tracks even more now.

I think I've heard references to this before and people assumed that this intro guitar was the bit that made it into Chinatown on ADKOT, but now looks like that's not the case?

I think though if these demos were to be released to the public Gary would have to arrange something with Alex and Wolfie. I say it's possible for these to come out but Gary would have to really push for it. These days though it's so easy to sell music online that I don't see why a digital release couldn't be arranged with Alex and Wolfie quickly. Only reason this stays never heard by the public is if Alex doesn't want it out or they do plan on doing a big boxset of unreleased stuff some day. We need some unreleased EVH infusion though and I would love for this stuff to come out this upcoming 10/6 to pay tribute to Eddie as it will mark 1 year since his passing. Since the Cherone era in Van Halen wasn't the most popular a digital release would be good enough. I hope Gary pushes for this it would be so easy to make this digital, upload it and release it for sale. Gary has to push for it though imo as Alex and Wolfie will likely just sit on these demos.

VH could do lots of possible releases but I ‘d be surprised if anything happens.

I wonder if he could do it without their permission. Mitch Milloy didn't seem to have any issues releasing his demo he made.

My understanding was that he had Ed's blessing.

    I could be wrong.
