Business as usual for VH consists mainly of doing nothing.

To expect anything, is setting yourself up for disappointment.

No shit.....I was told by a very trusted source that Ed willed me an old moldy burrito laying in the corner of 5150 during the time Van Halen III was recorded. I've yet to hear from anyone representing Ed's estate that I was indeed the recipient of said burrito. Maybe I should PM noise next door?

    You might have missed it...

There was a big news story last Nov/Dec we were discussing on this very website... it came from a Wolf interview.

There were many people discussing it here, most saying it was awesome that Ed left his VH share of pub/copyright to his brother, and that that was the right thing to do morally.

Wolf was left Ed's share of EVH Inc exclusively, and Al was left the VH catalog EVH-pub share exclusively.

i question anyone’s authenticity that would want to see these men on stage without the reason any of them belong there. no evh, no van halen, no “tributes” no “reunions” no 4 disc sets. no magic unreleased albums. it’s over. go listen to 1984 and absorb it, what more could that man have given you?

    I must have.

I’m still struggling to determine how any of that has anything to do with the question I responded to earlier that was, Why would Wolf have any say in what’s done with respect to VH?”

Regardless of who owns the publishing of the back catalogue...if a VH fan can’t grasp why Wolf, Ed’s son, might have a say in what VH material is officially released moving forward...

I’m really not sure what else to say.

I question the authenticity of anyone who wouldn't want to hear the 4cds worth of Sunset Sound material that Brian Kehew talked about working on for WB.

Exactly. So Prince is dead, no more Prince albums, right?

But oh wait, his estate just released a new record last month! And how many Hendrix releases since 1970? 50?

We all want to hear the unreleased stuff.

"In The Midnight Hour" from the 1984 sessions!

Anyone on this forum who tries to claim they wouldn't buy unreleased VH material officially released as a legacy project would be, dare I say, lying.

His estate has released 3 albums since he passed.

Prince also released 39 studio albums before he died. Van Halen released 12. There is no comparison when it comes to material between Prince and VH.

I dont need to personally see or hear the tapes at 5150 to know that there are not 27 albums worth of album ready songs to be released posthumously.

Enough for a collectable box set? Possibly. From what I've read, a lot of the tapes in there are just of Ed and Al jamming or Ed hitting the 'record' and playing. I'd buy it for commemorative purposes and for the interest in hearing him and Al work up a song from a jam to a structured thing.

Hendrix had a full band he was jamming and recording with. Not just Jimi and his drummer. These were fully recorded jam sessions where they ran through songs (both original and covers) that eventually were released.

I'm not sure how much of that type of material is on the tapes in 5150.

The stuff in the 5150 vaults isn't covered by the publishing rights, as it hasn't been published. We could go down the "dummy publishing" route due to dates on the tapes, etc., but my guess would be that anything that was in 5150 is now Wolf's to do with as he pleases.

And the way Wolf himself talks about archival releases, and going through the archives, at least in the interviews I've seen, he uses the singular, "me" and "I", not the "we" of Alex and me.

    Just an opinion.

I agree 100% with your assessment here.

Regarding the publishing, I'm aware it's not. Which is also why I was confused why it was brought up in the first place.

I don't think we'll see anything. I don't think Al has any desire to go into 5150 and go through tapes. I would think that would be a very hard thing for him to do on an emotional level.

Wolf has his own thing going. I don't think his intentions were to release a record then take a couple of years off to go through stuff at 5150 then release another album.

it is what it is. If something is released I'll buy it.

I'm no expert on it, but I have read before about "dummy" copyright and "dummy" publishing. Mailing it to yourself and not opening it so you have a postage stamp date, etc., as a free way of guaranteeing your rights.

But they also then say "don't do this". My only reason for bringing it up is that those tapes will probably be dated and catalogued, so it might be covered by publishing deals. There also might be language in the deals that cover what is in 5150, what Warner has, etc.

Long story short...we have no idea.

When he speaks, Wolf makes it sound like it is up to him, and he ain't in no hurry.
