    Agreed.

And the fact that, in VH-land, this is basically a pipe dream is a really sad statement on the band’s legacy, IMO.

Wolf has no copyright control and publishing decision making power on 11 of the 12 records.

ADKOT he does obviously have a say on, but it's a minority stake % wise

Ed willed his publishing to Alex, and his copyright of first reproduction (as he morally should have IMO)... and depending upon the original publishing splits, Alex may actually completely control the entire catalog as much as he is legally able to with any other corporate partners involved.

What does any of that have to do with the question of why Wolfgang has a say over anything Van Halen related?

He has a say if his Father and Alex want him to have a say.

Because only the writers have publishing control over their OWN music...

Plus the Masters may still be owned by a separate company altogether. We don't actually know if VH reclaimed their masters from WB after that recent and huge "35 year" copyright law change.

Wolf can only suggest things to the other people/companies that OWN the rights in full.

Ed gave Wolf the EVH business, and Alex got the music.

I don't think there is anything that Ed's family needs to do as a public tribute, but I certainly would love some type of tribute/remembrance show whereby other VH members performed songs with various other guitarists/musicians. They could donate money from the event to 'Mr. Holland's' charity to raise money and buy instruments for kids and schools. Film the show and release it on blu ray and other video streaming platforms to raise additional money, and give all of us who could not be there a chance to watch and listen to it.

    Who’s questioning that?

Wolf has said that if and when the time comes that unreleased material will come out, it will be up to him and Alex.

Questioning why that is the case, is what I was bringing up.

Do we actually know for certain that Ed willed his publishing to Alex? I would bet Ed willed his ownership of the corporate entity known as “Van Halen” to Alex, but his publishing too?

Van Halen own their publishing rights, they have a contract for distribution and management, but they held onto their rights (if I missed them selling their publishing rights, please correct me).

We have no idea how Ed left his estate. Janie could be in control of his publishing for all we know, but based on the myriad articles and interviews post Ed's passing, it seemed obvious to me that for at least Ed's portion of VH, Inc., that is now Wolf's.

Yep. Not sure why anyone remotely thinks Al is gonna do anything VH related. Zero chance of that. He’s been off the grid for decades.

All the Van Halens went through a traumatic event last year. To assume they will continue "business as usual" going forward is preposterous. We don't know how they will adjust to this new reality. Maybe even they don't know themselves.

Tribute concerts are often organized in similar circumstances. It would make sense to do one, and I for one believe that everyone could silence their egos and be team players just for ONE NIGHT.
