Default What its like to work with Roth on Road - Brian Young Interview

    Pretty cool listen...

Talks about how he got hired on to DLR Band, goes into what its like to work with Roth and also mentions when Roth told band he was going back to Van Halen.

31:45 mark is when he starts to talk about getting on with Roth.

Kind of funny how Roth was hard on the lighting and tech guys back then too...just like he was in on VH tours.

I kind of like how he separated between the two version of Roth, the "all business" Dave when they were rehearsing or playing, and the "fun time" Dave when they went out to clubs.

Edit: after all the shit slinging over the years, it's nice to hear someone talk about how much they liked working with someone from VH.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Interesting about the cover songs, I've heard that before, that Dave has hundreds of recorded cover songs that he's just done for fun over the years.

Haven't listened to the interview yet, but this reminds me of that video of Dave singing Soul Train.

A few have leaked out over the years, like "Crosstown Traffic", but most are stuck in The DLR Archives.

The first time I ever saw the Atomic Punks was in June 2020 at the Anaheim House of Blues, which was at that time still in Downtown Disney. Brian Young did the best impression of Eddie Van Halen that night I have ever seen. Absolutely amazing.

I think that was more in line of "you do what I do, not the other way around."

Dave was always the guy taking care of the visual aspect of the show, even in VH. I remember in old interviews the other guys saying Dave decided what each band member would wear on stage.

There's also the story of Dee Snider of Twisted Sister offering to dye his hair black because Dave wouldn't allow the opening act on VH's 1984 tour to have a lead singer with blonde hair.

I hope all bands weren't as insecure as VH was.

I assume you meant 2000 with B Young.

They were also great with Bart Walsh in the 90s.

Both those guys may have played Ed's exact tone better then Russ Parrish, but Russ had the biggest personality, that showed later in Steel Panther as well.
