    Default Joe Satriani's Other Half

Probably not worthy of its own thread, but I found this interesting. Joe's album “Shapeshifting” features Kenny Aronoff on drums, and “What Happens Next” features Chad Smith on drums.

Seems odd to me that Sam and Mike didn’t carry on the Chickenfoot path and left these guys to do their own thing with Joe. I think a 3rd Chickenfoot album could have been Great!

Sam says he does this stuff for the music but I imagine it’s not a fiscal jackpot and cost him and the guys money to make music these days.

When you own Red Rocker Studios, to say you can't afford to record is, no offense to Sam...bullshit.

Especially since you can record a quality album with minimal gear due to technology, you don't even need a studio, which he proved over the shutdown with his pandemic album with the Circle.

Sam says shit when its convenient, that's all.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

When this first happened, and they had some off hand in the studio video of it, I thought it was damn odd, because it was around the time that the official line was Chad Smith doesn't have time to record with Chickenfoot.

A new Chickenfoot album and tour would have been way better than what we got from the Circle imho.

It boggles my mind that Sam thought that it was too expensive to carry the Chickenfoot banner forward, so they gave us mediocre affordable music instead.

I don't mean this in a bad way, because they all do it, but Sam was simply talking out of his ass. There are other reasons that Chickenfoot is not recording/touring, and it has nothing to do with the cost of producing an album.

I hate to break to to you guys but Sam can't do Chickenfoot anymore. Maybe 5 years ago he could still pull it off but not now. I guess they could theoretically record songs that are in his vocal range but then everything would sound like Divine Termination.

The lament of CF to me is more about the quality musicians that Sam gave up.

He had a great guitar player that wanted badly to keep that band going.

    This.

    Joe Satriani > Vic Johnson

Sam has his own brand to maintain. If Joe isn't going to play VH and Sam's solo catalog, it was never going to be more than a side project.

Never thought of that, but probably closer to the truth than any other theory I've seen posted.
