Bingo. Sam shows his insecurity every time, and he knows his era will never be looked at on the same level as the original band.

I really don't care about what the frontmen say about each other anymore. VH as a band is now in the past and I think the various legacies of the singers are pretty well cemented by now. They've both made all the VH albums they're ever gonna make and done all the VH tours they're ever gonna do-- there's no more turf to fight for. It's a pointless comparison in 2021 and beyond. Why continue grabbing for a brass ring that doesn't even exist anymore?

I honestly rolled my eyes harder at Hagar's wrongheaded "now we know the vaccine doesn't work against the Delta variant" misinfo than any of the tired, old singer stuff.
"There will always be a Holyfield or a Tyson, but there's only one Mohammad Ali. There will always be a new body building champion, but there's only one Arnold. And there's only one David Lee. I'm the fun in Van Halen, always will be." - David Lee Roth

Sammy, GFY!! How many times will you do this same interview? Just trying to keep my calendar up to date. Always painting yourself in the best light. Arenít you special. Isnít this type of insecurity below your pay grade? At what point does someone in your camp step in and stuff a sock 🧦 in your yapper?
If stupid interviews paid a premium, I want the drilling rights to your head!

Frankly, there are other parts of the interview that are much more interesting. Only a very small part is about Dave and VH.

The tit for tat between the two will continue until their demise. The banter does not even bother me.
In all the Dave vs. Sam stuff over the years, the thing I never saw brought up was this.

I don't think Sam is widely regarded as a legendary Rock front man but I think Dave is, despite all of DLR's shortcomings, and that's what bothers Sam.

A sportsman can be an 8/10 competitor his whole career, but if he never hit 10/10, he won't be remembered as fondly as the career 6/10 guy that hit 10/10 a few times.

Dave has been irrelevant for at least twice as long as he was ever relevant, but when he was relevant, he was unsurpassed.

2 different people with 2 different ways of doing things. Both made great music with Van Halen but did it differently.

Rivalries, competition is good for business, everyone benefits. But even now, since Dave's not doing interviews, Sam is keeping his name in the news. It's all one giant circle, and they're all part of it, benefiting from it. Because remember, in that biz, the worst thing is silence and indifference. As long as they keep talking about you, you're good.
this isn't true. sorry. Dave and Sammy were taking shots in the media overseas for awhile, this was probably around the time Sammy released street machine (I think that was 79 or 80, I don't remember anymore)

I read some excerpts or so I think on the interview and not sure it was cool of him to discuss Eddie had lumps growing in his throat and wind pipe (too early for me to type esoph....) I hated when some hack artist talked about how bad Neil was at his end. Forgot that guy but he was saying Neil was in wheelchair, couldn't speak, etc

Regarding the Dave stuff, I know people going to say "well he is just answering the questions...."

Again I say, if Dave can tell Joe Rogan of all people, Eddie is off limits for a topic of conversation, Sammy can tell the Washington Post "hey I rather not talk about Dave. Doesn't do anybody good. I don't like the guy. My era is better. I had a number 1 album but doesn't matter now. Eddie is dead"

I know I am not the biggest Sam fan but after he and Eddie reconnected I figured he was allright in my book. Stuff like this just show me he really isn't much more than Eddie with better media skills The guy can hold a grudge as good as the brothers

To be fair, I think DLR took the first shot at Sam way back in the early 80's, saying "I know why Sam writes so many songs about cars, have you seen his wife?"

Something like that, not cool, but yeah, they are in their 60's and 70's now, to keep going on at it like teenage girls is really silly and should be beneath them...but unfortunately it isn't.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

For many people he will be remembered as the guy with the ass-less chaps, more a punchline than a legend.

Disagree, but not worth arguing over it. This is the same kind of thinking of people who like to belittle Van Halen's legacy.
