I bet GNR is going to put out a live Vinyl/CD/Blu-ray of this tour when it's over. They will go back and select the best performances.

Maybe a dumb question, but when performances are shown on the big screen behind the stage (as many are now) is that considered "pro shot"? I assume that stuff is recorded, but maybe not? If the stuff shown on screen is saved and stored, there should be a lot of great VH stuff out there somewhere. Right?

All of their roadies are in head to toe black as well, just noticed that on one of the videos.

That is an interesting question. I would think everything was recorded even if the band wanted it to review performances. There is definitely some videos floating around now that were taken from the video screen. That's why you can see all that extra stuff that is not the band because the video is exactly what the audience would have seen at the actual show.

My band opened for Tobey Keith once on a full on stage (the same stage where I saw Sammy solo, the Circle and the Sam and Dave tour) and the place has giant video screens. After we played our set, I was hoping that somehow it was recorded and figured we would ask later. I don't think I was even all the way packed up and someone gave one of the guys in the band a DVD straight from the video feed. That was pretty cool. I would imagine these shows get recorded but I have no idea really. There are probably tons of great shows tucked away!

Was at Fenway last night. I missed Wolf's first 2 songs but him and his band sounded great. Cool to see a Van Halen on stage again. I was right by the mixing tent on the field and I think Val and Wolf's girlfriend were in there during his set.

My 3rd time seeing Guns in the last few years. I think the charm has worn off a bit but it was still fun. Slash is still a force. I think he's getting better with age.

Most acts have done this for, first it was a soundboard recording to review how the band sounds while performing and when Video screens became more more prevalent and the visual presentation became increasingly more important bands so bands can, exactly like you posted, see how their show comes off, look for any tweets or adjustments to make it a better show.

Most shows have what's called IMAG (Image Magnification). Like Van Hampshire's experience, it's super easy for the crew to get a DVD of that, and I'm certain key shows are saved by the band/management.

If a show is intentionally being shot for a DVD you'll likely see more jibs (cameras on cranes) or railcams (cameras that can pan along a track).
