As Mike wrote back in post #59 of this thread, whichever album one first heard from VH has a lot to do with where one ranks it. Nostalgia is a powerful thing.

I never heard one single album when I was discovering VH on classic rock radio. They just played songs from each album. I would later find out that the ones I liked most had all been on the debut when I finally got the cassette.

I try to think about flip flopping “Light Up The Sky” and “You’re No Good” and then do you just flip flop side one and two or just start with “Light Up The Sky” and keep the rest of side one intact and then open side two with “You’re No Good”? I don’t know - I like the intro to “You’re No Good” as an album opener, but is the whole song worthy? Or is “Light Up The Sky” the better choice? With some 42 years of having it the way it is, I’m not sure my brain can process an alternative.

I’m not a big fan of YNG. I like the cascading harmonics (Ed’s trademark, among others) and the solo, but as a tune it’s not something I seek out. LUTS on the other hand is one of the meanest, kick ass songs in their whole catalog (the breakdown is stunning) and is definitely one of my favorites.

Yes! I never think of this one when we're making lists, but whenever they played it live it was always my favorite song. I'd always go hoarse shouting the chorus. Great tune!

Somebody Get Me A Doctor and Light Up The Sky have always been my two favorite song on VH II.

You're No Good is my favorite cover by VH that actually made it onto an album(Summertime Blues is my favorite overall, the live versions on various tours during the Dave era were always incredible).

LUTS is my favorite tune on II, and it was always an awesome concert opener in 79 and 2015, but I honestly don't think I'd want to change the track listing of the album, much like On Fire is a superior concert opener, but RWTD is still an amazing album opener. When talking about the six pack, we are talking about some of the greatest hard rock albums ever recorded, so I dont personally see the need to mess with track listings on such incredible recordings. I'll keep them "As Is".

Not only is RWTD an amazing album opener, it's the perfect catalog opener. Was listening to the debut the other day and thought how perfect it was that they opened the album with that song. It's a great introduction to the band. Not too flashy, great harmonies. Then right after that they came at you with 'oh, by the way, we have a phenom on guitar that you should hear.' Eruption set the table for what would follow.

    Most Overrated:
Dave-era, Dancing In The Street or Pretty Woman (it's a travesty that these 2 songs have the radio air-play status that they do).
Sam-era, I guess it would have to be Why Can't This Be Love.

    Most Underrated:
Dave-era: Several, but I would have to vote for Chinatown! Hell, literally NOBODY even knows about that song except for die-hard VH fans, and that was a KILLER track, especially at that point in their career's. Ed's solo is absolute FIRE!
Sam-era, I'd have to say either Aftershock (why that wasn't released as a single I'll never know) or Not Enough, such a fantastic rock balled, that should have been a huge hit. Still love it to this day.
"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne

"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello

"A lot of bands mature, which means they get square; they start delivering messages. Hey, you got a message, use Western Union." -DLR
