We’re on our way back from a funeral in Santa Barbara (wifey is driving) and Everybody Wants Some!! waa on Ozzy’s Boneyard a few minutes ago. I asked my wife, “Can you believe a bunch of Van Halen fans don’t like that song?” She replied, “Why? It’s basically a perfect example of Van Halen.”

    Yeah, she’s a keeper.

Blasting EWS this evening - yes this is top-shelf VH. A couple of weeks backs I was going to name this song in that other thread about what song best represents Classic VH. Love everything EVH and the band did, but my God were they hitting their peak in 1980-81…

    EWS exudes Classic Van Halen.

Tell your wife yeah it’s ridiculous Van Halen fans having discussions about Van Halen on a Van Halen website.

I'll do one for both eras.

Overrated almost has to be a single, since those are the songs that are most likely to be "rated" at all.

For Sam, I'll go Black and Blue. Some people call it a throwback song to their prior sound. I think it's one of the worst songs on OU812. Lyrically it's pretty awful and it's just a slow plodding rock song. I love Ed's tone and solo on it, but as a song it just doesn't do much for me and never really has.

For Dave - It's been mentioned earlier but I'll go with Everybody Wants Some. I don't dislike it, I just never understood those that rank it as one of their best. That actually holds for Women and Children as a whole, I think it's the weakest of the Dave albums.

    Underrated

For Sam, I got to go with Feelin'. Never understood why this wasn't a single. Not your typical VH tune but I love everything about it. Ed's tone is great, I love the sound of the background vocals. Sam took more than 45 seconds to write the lyrics for it and the song actually means something. Ed's solo on it is one of my favourites of all time with him, Mike and Al absolutely ripping on that section of the song.

For Dave - Somebody Get Me a Doctor. I don't know why but whenever I hear that song, I immediately smile. That's what music is supposed to do, right?.

Uh-oh, now you've done it! That's a very bold statement to make around here.

You could expect fewer Linker Christmas cards this year.

He will almost assuredly be removed from JD's list.

I rank Women And Children First #4 in the 6 pack (behind VH I, Fair Warning and VH II), but Everybody Wants Some!!, Romeo Delight and In A Simple Rhyme are all in my VH top 10.

I got no issue with WACF. Just take off ATCWR, EWS, and CTBM and it's a great album.

I need to start a thread on what album you first heard from VH and where do you rank it. I bet that has a lot to do with this. I probably overrate 1984 because that's the Van Halen that i first discovered.
