Was born in the north part of Toronto. Lived just outside of the city til i was 6 then moved a few minutes from the hospital i was born in. Parents moved to a suburb (maybe 15 minutes north) and have been there since. We live a few minutes from them. My brother and sister are also a few minutes away.

I remember going to a wedding in 1978 and sitting at a table with a bunch of senior citizens. One guy says to me son my first house in 1940? was 3500 and you can't touch one now for less than 80000 I feel sorry for your generation. 43 years later its up to a million. Scary shit there.

Default Where you live today vs Where you grew up

Lived in basically the same area my entire life In So Cal. Yeah I live in a different county than where I grew up but it’s only 20 miles from my childhood home. And my parents (well now just my mom) still live in the same house. I’ve traveled a lot but my home has never moved basically.

I’ve never even really thought of moving anywhere else other than maybe up the coast a little bit more. But in terms of leaving California, no that would never happen, especially not with my mother here and my wife’s family here. Plus I know once you leave here, it is impossible to ever come back, you never have enough money again.

I can’t tell you how many people we have known that have moved out of California to “save money for a couple years,” who can never afford to come back. Once you’re gone from here you’re gone.

That happens here too. They all move to Las Vegas and never come back.

Same for my area. My best friends sister moved to Myrtle Beach to "save money" for a few years, then when her and her family wanted to move back, they couldn't afford to.

Hard to move into a high cost area when you've been living in a low cost area, the math doesn't work (if you are wanting to buy a home).

I'll retire in the South, outside of urban areas it is simply so much cheaper than the Northeast.

I'll be able to sell my house, buy a nice house down South and 100's of thousands in the bank to spare from the sale.

SC is the hotspot now for Northeastern Yankees. NC is not a good deal anymore. I bet in 20 years the taxes in SC will skyrocket just like up north give it some time.

I know a LOT of people who have left New England for the Carolinas. I've visited both states several times, vacationed down in Hilton Head when I was younger. Loved it.

We'll see how things are when I retire. Still a ways to go, unfortunately. lol

Back on topic, yeah, I've lived in CT my whole life. Moved a couple times within the state, no more than 25 mins from where I grew up. For my wife and me, our families are still here and our great friends too. We have no need to leave just yet, despite our governors' best efforts. LOL
