I spent my first 11 years living about 2 blocks from The Wedge in Newport Beach, CA. Teen years in Tustin, moved out on my own at 17, lived in various apts and condos in the Santa Ana and Huntington Beach area where I bought my house in 2000 and remain to this day. Thus, I’ve lived my entire life in Coastal SoCal.

I’ve to a lot of different states throughout the US and even Australia (where I came close to relocating in 1990) but aside from maybe Maui, I have yet to find another place I’d rather live.

Nice! We were just there in June and enjoyed some 110+ temperatures. I vaguely remember you being from Wenatchee or Ellensburg?

Very cool reading all the replies. Some of you have really traveled a lot, either by choice or because of the military. My oldest son is in the Navy. He's lived in Maine and now Virginia for the last 2 years. When he first moved down there he liked it. Then he got to see more of it and hates it. When we write to each other, he's on deployment, about every other email he says he can't wait to move back to CT or somewhere in New England. Back in 95 my wife and I traveled all over the US in a 1986 GMC Vandura that I converted in to more of a conversion van. We hit 33 states including Cabo San Lucas in a 7 week road trip. We actually got married mid way through in Las Vegas on our 1 year dating anniversary. As much as we liked a lot of the places we visited we still didn't find anywhere as comfortable as where we were from. I suppose that's just human nature though. I will say seeing the Rocky Mountains and the Badlands of South Dakota were very memorable experiences. The Rocky Mountains in particular. You just don't see mountains like that in Connecticut. The Redwood forest was also pretty amazing.
    Thanks everyone.

Never left the county that the German side of my family came to in to in 1800. They came here to grow peaches and I am rooted here like a tree. Every year I say that I'll not spend another winter here. But I stay

Born in St. Louis County and now I live just outside of it across the Missouri river in St. Charles County (it's basically still St. Louis as half the region lives in this area). Really the only thing keeping my wife and I here is my family. Her brother still lives in Chicago where she grew up, but her parents retired to AZ. My siblings and my mom all live in this area, but if they didn't I would be open to moving elsewhere--especially now that I can work remote.

Still, I do enjoy living in this area. St. Louis has all the trappings of a large city but also feels like a small town in its friendliness and the way everyone seems to have a mutual connection. The only thing that isn't great about living here is you get the worst of both ends of the weather. In the summer, like today, it's brutally hot and muggy. It's like central Florida but without the palm trees. In the winter we get cold and snow like MN, just not as often.

My wife has been itching to move to somewhere--anywhere--but I've held firm for now. Like most people these days she wants to move to Florida or somewhere sunny all year around. I get it, but I do like having the seasons. As much as I hate the cold, I can't imagine having Thanksgiving and not seeing fall colors outside. I can't imagine having Christmas in shorts. Then again, if I grew up in Florida I would probably look at it from that perspective and think I'm an idiot
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

My wife occasionally pressures me to consider selling the house and moving just outside Atlanta because her sister and grandkids live there. No thanks.

Born in Malden, Massachusetts. Nothing notable there, just the whole being born thing.

Lived in Somerville, Massachusetts from the car ride home until September 2015.
The Somerville I grew up in doesn't remotely resemble what it is today.
Now, it's all overpriced housing, bike lanes, bus lanes & yuppies from Winter Hill to Arlington and bring an interpreter with you if you want to get anywhere in East Somerville.
Almost all Brazilian, Salvadoran & Haitian now. Very little Irish & Italian I grew up around.
That being said, there are a few things there that I still visit frequently.
My favorite bar (Olde Magoun's Saloon), my favorite pizza places (Leone's for Sicilian, Pini's for Italian) & of course, my mom

After nearly a year of couch hopping, renting rooms & doing things I'm not proud of, I ended up in Reading, Massachusetts in August 2016.
My landlord, who is also my roommate, is awesome.
5 years living there & we have yet to fight over anything.
Been a life saver in the money department as well.
I get my own room, my own bathroom & pretty much the run of the house for one flat rate per month. Don't pay utilities or anything.

That being said, my time is coming shortly to purchase my own house & I'll more than likely be getting out of Massachusetts at some point next year.
I would like to stay, but housing prices state wide, unless you're in a shithole like Lowell or Lawrence, are for lack of a better term, fucking insane.
I can get a 2 bed, 2 bath with a garage and central air in Derry/Londonderry, New Hampshire for around 350K. 325K if something comes up quick.
Anywhere in MA this side of Worcester? Minimum 500K and for every 10 miles you get closer to Boston, add at least 100K to the sticker.

    To Al Van Bundy.

3,500 square feet and a .25 acre lot costs a million plus where I live.

It's insane, I don't know how my kids are ever going to be able to afford a house.
