Default Where you live today vs Where you grew up

I had this idea for a thread yesterday while driving home from work. I figured it would be a nice distraction from the usual shit we disagree about.

I thought it would be interesting to see how many people still live in the town/city they were born and raised in. If you don't what made you leave the area.

I still live and work in the city I was born in. My drive home from work includes driving past the house my grandfather built in the 50's. My current house is less than 2 miles from the house I grew up in. I've seen a lot of changes in my city in that time, some good, some bad but for the most part I would consider it a nice place to live in New England. I am finally after 48 years looking to someday move my home and business outside of the city but still within the state due to my business and location to key vendors. Mostly because I'd like to have more land and incorporate my business on the same property with my home.
I used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass.

I grew up in Alaska until about 10 years old. School field trips included ferry rides down random rivers to go visit mountain men in their rustic cabins watching them clean pelts and heat coffee over open fires. Nothing better, no better way to grow up at that age.

Now I live in Albuquerque. Let's just say it sucks my motherfucking ass. People have no idea how to drive and you could be shot just because. Oh, and no real sports to speak of. That doesn't help.

I was born in Atlanta. I live outside of Atlanta to the northwest. I will die in Atlanta.

I grew up on the edge of Baltimore City in northwest Baltimore County. I went back to my high school a year ago its all beat up and run down. My parents house built in 55 looks like Munster Mansion. My old man would shit if he saw it today. People cared much more about property upkeep then. I used to play outside in the summer til dark. Would not be caught in the dark there now. Sad

    This is a fun idea.

I grew up in Richland Washington, just down from the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. Lived in Eastern Washington up until 1996 when my wife (also from Richland) and I moved to Oahu. Most of our family remains in Eastern WA.

    Oahu is better.

wanted out of my town in southern maine when i was very young - accomplished when i was 17 but not in the way i planned as my mom moved in with her boyfriend a few towns over. Escaped for good when i was 25 and have been in Florida since I was 32 and central Florida since I was 36. Just moved into a new house so don't envision going anywhere for the next 30 years, lol.

I grew up in a suburb east of Cleveland, Ohio.

I left when I joined the USAF, was stationed in England for 4 years, then stationed in San Antonio. The nature of my job in the Air Force had me traveling, been to 40 of the US states, and every Continent except for Antarctica.

When I got out, I stayed in San Antonio, raised my children to adults, married 2 times , fully retired and we couldn’t be happier here.

There was a time when I first got here where I missed the change of seasons, especially the Autumn, but we can travel for that, and I do not, under any circumstances miss the snow.

I am an Army Brat. Myself and my three siblings were each born at a different Army base. I was born at Ft. Bliss (El Paso) Texas. My dad, a Field Artillery guy, retired at Ft. Sill (Oklahoma) where I lived from age 2 to 16. Then my dad, now a GS working for the Department of Defense, moved us to Heidelberg, (West) Germany. I graduated high school there, and also met my future wife there. Then my dad was sent to Ft. Leavenworth (Kansas). My wife and I graduated from the University of Kansas in Lawrence where we lived in the married-student housing. My wife got a job in Atlanta where we lived from 1996 until last month. The last of our four kids is graduating from the University of Georgia in May, so my wife and I sold the house and moved to Las Vegas. That is where we are now. We have made our last move.

I live in a different state from where I spent my teenage years, but I live close enough that I can still see the mountain next to where I live.

By the crow flies, I probably live ten miles from where I grew up, but due to the Potomac River and Maryland and Virginia being unable to agree on the shared cost of building a bridge and who owns said bridges, it takes me an hour to get there.
