I was at that famous show at the LA Coliseum with the Rolling Stones in ‘89 where Axl stormed off stage saying people in this band are partying too much with Mr. Brownstone or some shit like that. Yeah he eventually came back to the stage and finished the show, but it was like what the fuck is going on. Always some fucking drama with these guys.

I have absolutely zero desire to see those guys now especially with people in the band that have no connection to the music that I liked anyway. I don’t care how good of a show they put on.
I didn’t have any desire to see them even in their heyday. I liked them OK, but they broke around the same time as Tesla did, and I thought Tesla was a better band.

Though I do think Nightrain is a kick ass tune. Also, Steven Adler was such an explosive, swinging drummer - perfect for that band. Never the same after him.

I think if you were 16 or 17 years old then they were a bigger deal. I think the older metal fans probably didnít really like them as much. Tesla was not a band I wouldíve listened to, I just didnít like their stuff. It wasnít aggressive enough for me. By that time I was listening to Metallica and Megadeth and stuff like that a lot. GNR had some really aggressive stuff on Appetite that I really liked.

Their music just clicked for me for a while. I donít know I was just a huge fan. But man live they were awful.

But I got burned out on them right after the UYI stuff and Iíve never really been a big fan again.

GnR were never the same without Izzy to me. I still can't believe how huge they are. I dont know, for me even with Adler who was their best drummer, the drums are so secondary and pretty rudimentary that I never got into them THAT much even though they had some great tunes. Mr Brownstone and Coma are probably my favs.

Haha thatís totally funny yeah thatís me. What you guys thought I was lying? Nobody tries to look cool by pretending to be a bowler.

Iím not a pro anymore though I stopped paying my dues years ago. My stats would be from the 90s and early 2000s and I donít think they have those anymore, which is why there is nothing there.

I just burned out dude after 25 years of it. I stopped bowling in 2008 and really havenít picked up a ball much since. I have been toying with the idea of bowling league this fall because Iím in such bad shape, I think Iíd like to start seeing if Iím into it.

And yeah when I met Slash I wasnít a pro yet, I was still in college. I think I turned pro in 1994. Itís really hard to remember now.

First, adding ďBrett kicking ass bowling in the early 90sĒ to the list of things to see when I get my time machine up and running.

Second, Slash is so much better than GnR. Iím glad Iíll be able to say Iíve seen GnR live, but Iíd rather it be Slash solo. Axl seems like a petulant child and apart from AFD I only enjoy maybe 40% of the Use Your Illusion tunes. Would much rather hear Slash with Myles Kennedy.

I really was blown away by how nice Slash was when I met him. I mean he was at the height of his popularity and here comes some moron up to him in a bowling alley bar asking him to sign a guitar and shaking his hand with his mother standing there. I mean how much more lame can that be and he was super super nice and accommodating.

And yes my mother was there because we were bowling league. I used to bowl league with my parents and my uncle.

Ha-Ha! No. I searched to see if any photos were floating around. The PBA link was the only thing that popped up.

I hope you find your mojo—especially if it’s something you enjoy doing again. I think it’s cool that you were good enough to turn pro.

To be honest itís not that hard to become a pro. I donít know if itís changed now but you needed to average I think 200 or something in sanctioned play for three straight years and you needed a written recommendation from somebody who was already a pro. There were a couple other things you had to do to qualify, but itís not the hardest thing in the world to get on the circuit.

The hardest thing is to fucking make any money at it and be a factor. You donít realize how amazing these guys are until you bowl with them. They never fucking miss. They never throw a bad ball. It was very intimidating and very eye-opening.

I intimidated everybody in my own house, but when I got out on tour I was nothing, and those guys looked at me like nothing. Itís just a whole different world. It really taught me about competition and I certainly got better bowling against the best.

Thanks man. Weíll see if I feel good enough to bowl in the fall. Plus my equipment is so old and I might need to get some new bowling balls and they can be pretty pricey, and I really donít know what the good stuff is anymore. I just need to relearn the game basically.

Yeah I donít think youíre gonna find too many photos of me bowling out there. I have a million of them. Iíll see if I can upload a few for you guys so you can get a laugh. My mom has all my bowling shit Iíll call her and she what she has.

Sorry to derail this thread with bowling shit. I forgot how we got started on this. Oh yeah I met Slash at the bowling alley thatís right. Haha.

Ha-Ha! I give you credit. The only thing I ever got from bowling was a sore elbow. I could never control the ball.

Haha. You know the thing about bowling is a bad player can beat a good player. The best anyone can score is 300 and that is available for anybody honestly. Itís not like golf or tennis or something where thereís no chance a bad player can beat a good player. Thatís the weird thing about bowling. Yeah you might get lucky and beat me one time, but if we bowled 100 games Iíll probably beat you 99 of them. It is the only sport that I can think of that a bad player has a chance against a good player. The key with bowling of course is consistently doing it. Thatís the thing that always bothered me about bowling is that you really can only see greatness by the consistency. Iíve seen everyday people walk into a bowling alley and shoot 225 before.
