Saw this awhile back. Rick does a great job breaking parts down. Makes you look at the song a little differently.

Combine this Greg Renoff's Sunset Sound discussion of Jump, and you can understand why Ed wanted his own studio. Even Ted Templeman admitted that if they were at Sunset Sound Jump wouldn't have been as good, because he wouldn't have worked on it for 10 months, he would have worked on it for 10 days and said "that's good".

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Al and DLR made significant contributions as well, song isn't the same without them.

At least we can all agree that Mike was useless.

After seeing that, it made me realize the coolest part of the song is the solo breakdown, but not the solo - it’s the keyboard riff under it!

Man, that was great. I saw that up online, but I never watched it before. I never heard that pre-chorus keyboard part before either. Brilliant.

Between this and some videos I've been watching that are just the instrument parts of Van Halen songs it really shows what an incredible composer Eddie Van Halen really was. God, I miss him.

Man, I didn't hear that part until I listened to an instrumental of Jump this year, and you're right. It's so good.
