Yep. Sammy at it again. Same could've been said about 1985. It is what it is. At least VH finished their career with the right singer.

Didn’t they have some extended time off before FUCK came out? I know that was 91... I get that Sam was going through some personal stuff, which I guess you can’t choose the time to deal with.

I just think the shine was worn off, they had reached their creative peak, and from there on Ed was restless and wanted to do something else with someone else.

Was right around the time that Sammy was trying to be a fashion mogul with his clothing brand Red Rocker. Apparently, this was a prototype that never went into production. Just few years later, he did a 180 and became a tequila baron!

    They all wished they had.

Cause they went nowhere after Sammy.

VH would have 5 more albums if they just kept Sammy.

Ed & Val's marriage would've probably ended in the early 2000s anyways, and Ed would've gone through a rough patch, no matter the singer. So I doubt we would've had 5 more albums. A couple more records with Sammy, yes. More than that, I doubt it.

I think Ed was going to fight with whomever the singer was at that time in his life. Ed was looking for a yes man, and neither Sam nor DLR are that.

The initial thought was to take a break in 1985, and look how that ended up. It's what happens when no one in the band can communicate effectively.

We really shouldn't be too surprised they don't communicate well with their fanbase when they don't even communicate well within the band itself.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Yep, Ed got the 10 year itch with both Dave and Sam. He then got the 3 year rash with Gary.

    This.

Come 96’ Ed (and to a lesser extent, Al) was tired of having lead singers run, what he perceived to be, “his band”.

VHIII is proof positive of this. Hired a nobody producer and a singer that was just happy to be there who wasn’t going to go against anything Ed said.

Just watch the press interviews they did for III. He was going on about how the prior two singers had LSD and yet he was the only one doing the talking in any of those interviews.

Ed wanted “his” band back. And he got it.

I think that album and the lack of love it received from the core VH fans was a huge blow to him and it created the, “Fuck it. I’ll just make music for myself in my studio” mentality.
