Loved both albums when they were released, but as mentioned above 5150 hasn't aged well. It sounds like 1986.
EEAS definitely gets played more here than 5150 and its been that way for a long time...
I hate the drums on 5150. Fucking Simmons shit...
Definitely more songs I dislike on 5150 too including my least liked VH song of ever..
If you have nothing nice to say about Eddie Van Halen, you're at the right website. - Me (A few years ago)

"For some reason people love to complain about everything. The internet has made it easy for people to do that. Shut the fuck up and get a life, or show me how good you can do it."- Edward Van Halen

Yeah, Dave isn't doing a straight up love ballad (especially about aliens ). I think WCTBL still gets made, but obviously the song would have been much different.

35 years later, there are a few songs on both albums that I would automatically hit the skip button on if they came up on my phone.

    Love Walks In
    Get Up
    I'm Easy
    That's Life

And I must say, after all these years, I really don't like what DLR did with Bump and Grind. Great music, but not a big fan of DLR's vocal and lyrical treatment.

I always loved Love Walks In, adding to this thread.

5150 for me by a ton.

The reason is that I never cared for Dave's show tunes and I'm Easy and That's Life are weak filler.

If I had to make a combined album (like they do in the article), I would include 12 tracks: Why Can't This Be Love?, Dreams, Summer Nights, Best of Both Worlds, Love Walks In, and 5150 from VH; Yankee Rose, Shy Boy, Goin' Crazy, Tobacco Road, Bump and Grind, and Elephant Gun from DLR.

You should. I like it and not to diminish the talent on the album per se but in my view Roth went out to recreate VH. Now what he did with EEAS is create a vibe much closer to classic VH than 5150 but there's no denying that 5150 was something new. To me, EEAS doesn't really wander away from the tried and true VH formula....with the exception of the two self indulgent tunes, That's Life and I'm Easy.

EEAS is garbage in comparison to what Roth was doing alongside his other 3 CVH band mates.

Ladies Nite and Going Crazy are OK, but the rest is second rate.

Roth leaving behind Edward and Alex Van Halen will go down in music history as the stupidest career move ever. Total fucking lunacy.

Roth was creativity LOST post VH... you could see it in his eyes and through his demeanour in almost every interview.

Dave wouldn't be singing songs Sam wrote though. He'd have written his own melodies that fit his voice/style. We have no idea what those songs would sound like if Ed gave the music to Dave.

I do think Love Walks In would be made, but the melody would be completely different and Dave would have obviously written his own lyrics. Song would probably be called Love Walks Out and Ed and Al would complain that it's nothing like they expected it to be.

I'd still like to hear more about 'Eat Thy Neighbor' and the other songs Dave worked on before he left...

I'm Easy and That's Life should have been on DLR's next covers EP, not something like EEAS. With the talent in that band, they should have been able to come up with two at least decent filler originals to round out the album.

I'm Easy (for me) sucks all the energy out of side 1, I mean you are feeling pretty pumped after Yankee Rose and Shyboy, then that...boo.
