Production plays such a huge role in how much I enjoy an album that it nearly gives EEAS the edge for me.

But 5150 prevails at the end of the day. The highs are higher (no pun intended) and it relies less on the spectacle and more on strength of songwriting.

    5150 is much better imo.

I've repeatedly gone back and listened to EEAS because of the love you guys give it. That record has some good tunes on it, but never really made me love it.

For me, it's just a beautiful song. The music, the lyrics, the vocals, and Ed's solo are all perfect. I remember listening to it for the first time, and I rewound the tape to listen to it again before moving on to 5150. I remember thinking that this is what a rock n' roll ballad is all about. For me, when you Van Halenize something, it just elevates that entity. As the Brits say, "bloody brilliant".

EEAS did absolutely nothing for me. Yankee Rose was a cool song for that Summer, and I liked the video, but the rest just lacked...EDDIE VAN HALEN's magic.

Man...I actually think WCTBL is one of the tunes that has aged the best on 5150. The emphasis on the synth offers some atonement for the rest of the production and electronic drums.

86 wasn't a good year still not over Roth leaving and Hager joining. Vai tried so hard to outdo Ed no matter what he says later. 5150 was ok but not the VH I grew up on but did love Live without a net. Bottom line is So was a better album lol

Both releases have their highs and lows. 5150 hasn’t aged well in terms of production. Saw the EEAS tour and it was a much better show.

I still like 5 songs off of EEAS

As opposed to only one off of 5150

It just simply wasn’t the band I liked anymore

Other than that reading the title of the thread…this song crossed my mind

    But change is!"

    Cool

I think they are both incredible albums and bands. Sam & Dave are my top 2 singers. Ed is my favorite guitar player, Vai is 2nd. Al is my favorite drummer. Sheehan is my favorite bass player.

Yankee Rose is my all-time favorite song. Why Can't This Be Love is my favorite VH song. 1986 was a very good year for Hard Rock fans.
Right Now you're reading my post!

For me it's EEAS. 5150 came out and I bought it on LP,but was very disappointed with the band's direction. Full disclosure I'm a Dave fan, but I own OU812,FUCK,and LRHRN. I don't own 5150 in any form now.

I still love Love Walks In and since I gave myself like a 2 year break, like WCTBL again.

Good songs are good songs. Sure production helps. I actually can listen to Inside up through the guitar solo. Still think its their Source of Infection on that album (always seem to have a tune like that) but the music is kind of cool.

Love walks in was one of the songs vai played on the EVH Sirius tribute when he hosted. In fact I think it may have been the only Hagar era song. He had glowing things to say about that song and the structure of it etc

    I dig that tune
