Having to start over...
Hey all,
Not a sympathy post; just venting and looking for a bit of advice.
For the second time in my life we have a total loss that directly affects one of my favorite hobbies which is music/playing guitar. We bought this current home almost four years ago and one of the selling points for me was the beautifully finished basement; it became my "haven." More than enough space for three of my favorite hobbies: guitar playing/music, gaming, and finally exercise.
This past weekend in SE Michigan we had 9 inches of rain in a 6 - 7 hour period and the Detroit Pumping Station that services our area failed....we had over five feet of water in the basement. We discovered it at 7AM Saturday morning (midnight the night before I went downstairs to shut the lights off before going to bed; little did I know it would be my last) and everything was fine. Around 9AM the city pumps turned on and a few hours later it was safe to go downstairs.
Everything was destroyed...everything. Stuff was literally floated or thrown to other rooms in the basement including our refrigerator which was full....as for the relevance to this forum all eleven of my guitars (including my patent pending wolf I bout over thirty years ago, three amps, 2x12 cab, full pedalboard, laptop with music/recordings/tabs, sheet music books, cables/equipment, etc....all gone.
We are currently fighting with the insurance and city as of course despite what happened they want to call it an act of God etc etc and not pay anything...luckily we are good at keeping receipts; over $40,000 in damage and loss and another $10,000 we estimate that we do not have paperwork for; the second adjuster is coming today because I nearly lost it with the first one and basically threw him out of our home.
At some point; God knows when; if I am able to rebuild again I suppose I want to keep it simpler. Maybe only a guitar or two and one amp set-up and that is it...was interesting in seeing the thoughts of the group. I was thinking a LBX and either 1x12 or 2x12 and perhaps the new 5150 in satin black and call it a day....of course with effects but even then I will likely go lighter and simpler. Again this is assuming we get a dime from the insurance; we emptied our savings just to buy back the essentials.
Thanks for listening.It's 5150 time!

Dude, that suck.
Unfortunately, insurance policies usually cover what coming down damage (through the roof), but not water coming up (floods, water backup, etc.).
If you have the water backup rider, you should be good, otherwise, you are probably going to have a fight with them.
I can't imagine losing all my gear.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Basements suck. I feel for you. Mine is all of a sudden after 32 years starting to leak during thunderstorms. I have 2 sump pumps already. In fact I have a contractor coming in next week for some work. I just pray it works. Insurance even if you have a rider for basement flooding due to sump pump failure is not to good. Then if you place a claim they jack up your premiums. My advice to any young people on here is do not buy a house with a basement if you can. Good luck.
