    Derek is scary.

Really no other way to describe him.

Eddie's solo on So This Is Love? is one of the most tasteful in his entire body of work.

They kinda lost me at "you can hear the band isn't quite on here" -

    FAIR WARNING?

    R-r-e-a-l-l-l-l-y?

I don't know what idiot perceives 'em as "not quite on" for this album, but it ain't me.

The other thing about jazz is the hands....

Seriously I never really tried jazz on guitar up until the last 6 months. I used to play jazz on trumpet but never tried to incorporate it into guitar. So now trying to play dominant 7 appregios when doing blues and yes it changes the way you play.

Anyway onto Eddie while I think he incorporated what he probably heard around the house from his dad into his guitar by using outside notes as lead ins. Probably why he loved the pattern he used a lot because it allowed this. Like other things he heard it in his head so it just became a part of his playing instead of trying to do it the right way.

Derrek Smalls also used this in Jazz Odyssey

... Any time anybody writes up VH who isn't a diehard will get skewered here.

I'm going to chime in, skewer this guy and say the solo is full of jazz.

Sides, what did Dave used to say, the critics all like Elvis Costello because they look like Elvis Costello.

Default HOW VAN HALEN’S ‘SO THIS IS LOVE?’ STANDS APART ON ‘FAIR WARNING’

When somebody in the first couple sentences calls the Van Halen song “Mean Streets” I don’t read any further. Seriously I am done reading any article from someone who clearly doesn’t know shit about the band, starting with getting the names of songs wrong.
