His horse ranch operation sounds like a pretty good money maker from what I read a while back..probably keeps him and his wife busy
    Dealing with it.

I think the idea of Alex, Alex & Geddy makes more than perfect sense. But these are imperfect times.

Alex's legacy as a drummer is cemented. He may not get the credit, or even seek it out, but he has had a large influential impact on a lot of players crossing several genres. The number of drummers who have not just one, but two, signature snares to go along with a signature ride cymbal designed and made in their name is small.

Default Rush with special guest Alex Van Halen

And not to be rude but what is the connection you guys have with throwing Alex with the guys from Rush? Does Van Halen have some underlying friendship with this band or something? I mean it sounds like they ran into them from time to time like so many bands do it wasnít like they had some deep friendship or something. I donít even understand why Alex would play with those guys anyway.

I always found it curious how many Van Halen fans are Rush fans. I never really liked them at all. I appreciate that theyíre great musicians but their music does really nothing for me. And then when I went to a Rush concert just to say I saw them a few years back (my friend got free tix in Vegas) I think it was probably the strangest group of men Iíve ever seen at a concert. Haha. So weird with all the over the top air drumming Iíve never seen that before. Guys still dressing like it was 1978. It was almost like a time warp. Maybe was just that show or something because it was Vegas, but so weird. And of course there was a whole myriad of songs Iíve never heard before that were so fucking long and tedious, I was just like ďOMG play something I know already.Ē

Anyway I donít know why itís a really hard concept for you guys to grasp that Al probably doesnít want to play with anyone other than Ed. It also seems strange to pass judgment on something that we canít possibly understand either. I take it you guys have lost people close to you before and probably donít want to do things that makes you think about them, or things that were special for you and them. Itís no different for Al.

Yeah, I could never get into Rush. I like some songs, but I never could make that connection of being a full-on fan. Similar thing I have with the Foo Fighters. I want to like them but they just fall short with me for some reason.

And AVH and Rush is not a good fit, IMO.

Let him go and play around at 5150. Maybe something will come out of that.

I think the original article is a piece of satire, like an article in the Onion or something. Yeah, I mean I like Rush and Alex would be capable of playing anything, but I don't think he would ever do it. He's more of a swing and feel player anyways, than being a straight up technician the whole time behind the kit.

I doubt he ever plays in public again, but if he did my dream scenario is still he, Lukather, and Billy Sheehan forming a trio to just jam.

Yeah, but if Alex joined the remaining members of Rush for a tour, would you go to the show when it rolled through town?

The Op posted the ridiculous speculation, but I googled it just to be sure... and found that old article. Of course it's satire.

Yeah I know that second post was referencing a clearly satirical article. But the thread and the first post was a serious question I believe right?

I think because deaths have all but ended both groups has a lot to do with the discussion of Alex playing with those guys.
