Alex is also my guy but IMO there is no best. people are all different and bring different things to the bands they are in.

My thought, which some may hate, is that Gregg Bissonette has to leave the Ringo's all Starr band because he's been secretly working with Dave (who has been working with a vocal trainer) to get the original EEAS band back together. Alex is good buddies with Luke and takes Gregg's spot in the upcoming All Starr tour. It's a low key low pressure gig for Alex as he and Eddie loved the Beatles and Alex would fit right in with those guys. It's also a beautiful promotional opportunity for Ludwig as Ringo and Alex are top endorsers. Alex does the gig on a set no larger than his 1991 chrome set (as the SS Alex is not needed) and we get two great opportunities to see two great bands.

I love RUSH and of course VH but I have no desire to ever hear Alex play a RUSH tune and I doubt he would ever even want to play one.
Alex Van Halen will never play with anyone other than Eddie. Or Wolf in a pinch.

Id feel safe putting a million on that bet.

Well he wont even attend his own testimonial or RRHOF induction so odds are your right. Was he ever on Letterman on any late night talk show? I bet Paul Schaeffer asked him to sit in many times.

I donít understand why itís hard for people to grasp this. Al lost his brother. He has loyalty. Other than Robert Plant, thereís no one I respect more for it than Alex.

Oh I donít think it has anything to do with loyalty. It has to do with the fact that Ed and Alex played music together for nearly 60 years and were brothers. They had an amazing connection that Al will never get with other musicians. I canít imagine he wants to do anything with anybody ever again. And I donít blame him. Itís almost like he lost a part of himself when Ed died. Unfortunately it probably means the end of Alís musical career in public, but one never knows.

and that must be an insecurity if he never played with anyone other than Eddie. Yes, they were brothers. Yes, they formed a phenomenal band and played together their whole lives, but come on, man. Live a little. Take a chance.

I don't subscribe to playing with Alex & Geddy and calling it RUSH, but if the opportunity presented itself to play together, write a few tunes, cover some songs by both bands, and call yourselves anything other than RUSH or Van Halen, I'd be all for it.

This is stupid. Al isn't joining any bands.

In this case Portnoy would be the choice.

Ed and he were brothers, best friends, and musical soulmates all in one. That connection can never be replaced.

If Al is going to play in public again its going to have to be with someone he has been friends with for a long time, such as a Steve Lukather.

Al is close to 70, and has been in one band from the time he was in his early teens. He isn't playing with anyone else. I wouldn't be surprised if ten years from now it comes out that he hasn't touched the kit since Ed's death.

Alex Lifeson went a couple years without playing, and it wasn't even his wife and kid that died, he just had no interest playing if it wasn't RUSH.

It becomes a large part of who you are, it changes you, and everyone isn't able to just switch gears and switch to another group of guys.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

A man's rights rests in three boxes: the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

Yeah, if Alex didn’t play with anyone else all these years while Edward was alive, can’t see why he would start now.

The legend of Al will live on. The stealth drummer/reverend who has a fondness for horses and only played for the King Of Six Strings.
