Somehow Brian gets away with it with know how, a wink and a smile... Sam has the tendency to make us just cringe.

Then again... I never listened to an album called FUCK for Bob Dylan/Neil Peart like transcendence.

I like threads like this. Makes me revisit a record I haven't listened to front to back in a while.

I have absolutely no dislike of FUCK. 1991 was a fun and exciting year for whatever age I was... and VH's new product was a huge part of it. Good friends, good music. Great memories!

Just finished listening the Japan remix in the car while running errands.

Now I'm gonna go listen to Live:RHRN (since it's basically the whole album reworked a bit) out in the garage while I spring clean out there and make some hanging baskets for the front porch... because it's fucking raining on Sat. in NE Ohio... AGAIN!

Yep. I can't stand the sound of LRHRN. As much shit as people give Tokyo Live, I think it sounds better than the overproduction on their previous psuedo-live album. I dont know, I guess Andy Johns just lost his touch. I do remember stories of he and Ed getting pretty lit in the studio together.

Musically, Pleasure Dome is awesome. One of Ed's best intros and his best solo on the album. Parts of the intro he originally played during his concert solos on the 1980 Invasion tour.

Al's drumming is spectacular and inspiring. I think his best drum track of the Sam era, and I love that it truly is a "one off" of him playing it all the way with no punch ins, as evidenced by a couple of his "off" rim shots towards the end lol.

I actually like Sam's spoken word approach to the verses. I appreciate it even more as I get older when he tones down his grating screeching and straining and oversinging that he was so prone to on so many VH tracks. It didn't bother me as much when I was a kid VH fanatic in the moment, but over time and many years a lot of his VH screeching is nails on a chalkboard. I dont even mind where he was trying to go with PD lyrically, he just isn't interesting enough of a writer to pull it off, but he definitely does not ruin the song for me like he does for some of you.

All VH albums from 1978 to 2015 on shuffle. There... I participated in a list. That was easy. Whew!

Didn't care for the mix something about Mike's tone. Really didn't care too much for Van Hager but still loved Ed so I put up with it.

This album came out the very last week of my junior year in high school. I remember when the day it came out both KXRX(RIP) and KISW were playing every track throughout the whole day. My friends and I were trying to get as many of our teachers as we could to have the radio on during their classes lol. Some of our classes always had the radio on anyway so I got to hear a bunch of the tracks that day at school. So awesome lol.

I remember a few weeks before the album came out and before the video even hit MTV when Poundcake debuted on the radio. The next day at school we were all trying to figure out WTF Ed was doing during the intro, but we thought it was the greatest thing we'd ever heard .

As much as I love PD, the true gem of the album is The Dream Is Over. I remember that first day when the radio stations were debuting the album, when they first played this tune one of the DJs before playing the song said this next one is obviously VH out to prove they still know how to rock. This is a top 5 Sam era tune for me.
