Dirty Movies features stellar Ed. Spanked features good Ed but nothing Earth shattering. I wonder what the song would sound like if he hadn't recorded with a 6-string bass. Dave's lyrics for Dirty Movies are awesome. The only lyric in Spanked that comes off a bit cringy is "hang your love line in her direction." The harmonies are awesome and Ed's solo is nice. I don't like the tempo of Spanked.

We don't need another Dave vs Sam lyric thread, and that is what this has devolved into. If someone wants to open up a new thread about FUCK and leave DLR's lyrics out of a discussion about a Sam era album, have at it.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Ok, riding a wave and being on fire. Fire on the Water. Still, nothing special.
not ALL of Dave's lyrics are great just as not ALL of Sammy's are pervy. But if I had to chose to listen to On Fire or Up for Breakfast...well, easy choice.

And you also have to think about the fact that Up for Breakfast was released in 2004 when Sam was what? pushing 50? and writing lyrics like " Put that butter on my biscuit, honeydew my melons" As opposed to On Fire which was written when Dave was a young man.
