Its on YouTube somewhere and pretty sure it was posted on here, but I can't remember what the name of hid side band is. It was a pretty sweet gig though, and even though he is definitely not a singer, I actually prefer his rough and tumble vocals over Grohl's.

Grohl is extremely talented, but there is just something bland about everything he does. Even back in the day up here when the Seattle music scene was really happening when I was in HS and college, I felt he was a bit overrated as a drummer. Matt Cameron w/Soundgarden was the superior player around here IMO, but I'd also take Sean Kinney(AIC), Dave Abbrusezze(Pearl Jam), Greg Gilmore(Mother Love Bone) and the dude from Mudhoney who's name escapes me over Grohl behind the kit back then.
Kinney is a beast and often overlooked.

If Wolf asked al he’d do it.

The question is will Wolf want to do this after he tours.

I have to be honest. I have no interest in seeing any of the people you guys are naming playing Van Halen’s music. I get it that Wolf said so you guys are all into it. But I just don’t have any interest in this. Especially if all the VH members past and present aren’t involved.

As soon as you guys started mentioning the Foo Fighters I’m like, “Yep I’m out.”

His playing on Dirt is absolutely terrific, and that album had his best drum sound, just HUGE. I was extremely disappointed in both his playing and sound on the follow up full length album, the one with the three legged puppy on the cover, but pretty much the whole band was burnt out and out of steam on that record.

I thought his sound and playing on the mostly acoustic EP Jar Of Flies, which showed him playing with more finesse and a thinner sound was actually really great and fit the acoustic guitars and strings on that record like a glove.

Yeah the Alice In Chains album is a bit of a disappointment. You can tell the drugs and stuff had really taken over for them. Not their best effort. But there are a few gems on it.

I can guarantee this thing will be a clusterfuck like all things VH.

They could never do it on the level of the Freddie Mercury tribute. That was easy. The band was still intact, they just needed a guest vocalist for the songs.

Or do they have Sam, Dave, Al, Mike , wolf just sit in the audience and watch a bunch of new acts butcher the music live? VOMIT

oh and Dave Grohl, i will never forget watching some VH-1 show back in late 90s where he basically trashes the Hagar era and the song Right Now. Why does he need to be anywhere near it. Foo fighters is the most over rated band ever

Members of VH should absolutely be part of a tribute to Eddie

that would be like someone dying but. I family give a eulogy and only friends gather

if Alex chooses no to be part of it he chooses not to be part of it. Maybe if he doesn’t partake he’d at least be there. I have a hard time believing he wouldn’t at least be there.

the whole point is to celebrate Ed’s life and his impact and accomplishments. I’m really not all that much into who performs and who does what other than I don’t want slash playing a VH song.

this also gives fans a chance to have some closure and celebrate Ed and pay our respects as we watch. With the family being so private (understandably so) and no site to commemorate- it’d be amazing to see this.

I can understand wolf not wanting it to turn into a VH tribute as opposed to an Eddie tribute…but you can’t tell the story of EVH without the band.

it can be done the right way- it’s a matter of whether or not they want it done and people are willing to submit to the requests of the family.

I can only remember liking maybe two or three tunes on that record, and not liking any of them as much as any tunes on all their previous albums. Like you said, the drugs and drama had burnt them out unfortunately.

Would Alex play a two hour set with Sammy and MA, DLR , Wolf with multiple guest guitarist for all the songs ?

How would that even work ? What guitarist would even attempt to try it ? How many would you need ?

I could see like a 45 minute video of Eddie playing his solo's and riffs/piano from songs, just focusing on him. At the end , the band plays two songs. with a special guitarist and keyboard player .

I'm guessing it would be a number of bands playing short sets then guest guitarists playing with Al/Wolf/Mike/Sam/Dave for VH tunes.

It's going to be impossible to satisfy us, the diehards, with this tribute show. Yeah, like everyone has mentioned, I'm sure Grohl will show up--he always does. lol For me, he's not the right type of guest for something like this, but he certainly won't be denied--besides Wolf really likes him.

I just hope they can sincerely pay tribute to The Man. That's what it's all about. Not everyone needs to play, some can simply speak of what Eddie meant to them. Slash, I'm talking to you.

The VH songs certainly won't sound right. That's to be expected. But let these musicians pay their tribute in whatever way they wish.

Nancy Wilson can do what she did in that video tribute she made where she played her original acoustic song for Eddie and said a few words. That was perfect.

Alex is a mystery when it comes to public appearances. But this is for his brother. He'll be involved in some way. Would obviously love to see him out there playing, but I don't see the odds in favor of that.

I'm kind of with DD in regards to Dave and Sam's involvement on this. Of course they should be there, but I just hope they can remember that this isn't about them. Can they do that?

Its not a VH tribute. An Eddie tribute. I do agree that if Sammy, Mike, Alex, Gary and Dave are around maybe just have them each at one point introduce a band, say a few things about Eddie, tear up and then move on. Maybe they can guest play with a band as an individual. Don't bring The Circle. Leave the DLR band at home. With Gary and Extreme maybe you do get them to do a tribute as I said earlier. They are the only band with the ability to do a medley plus one guy was actually in the band.

Somebody lock Eddie Trunk and Dave Grohl in a room however that won't happen., Wolfgang is tight with each so they will be there. Dontate the proceeds to Mr Hollands Opus.

Just talk about the cool shit that was Eddie Van Halen.
